Winter Meetings Thread

And see you and me Gov can have disagreements and not challenge each other to cage matches. It's a beautiful thing. I completely understand you point of view. I wouldn't be torn up if it were Folty instead.

Yeah.

Hey, zb, let's have a signature bet. If the Braves sign a free agent, or make a trade, or release someone between now and February, let's both of us make our signature "Enscheff is a homo."

Rodriguez post well over 800 just last year after making adjustments. May not be likely

But silly to discount. Especially with how well Jace hits as a lefty

How well Jace hits? Have you looked at his stats? I'm guessing no, based on that statement. Here they are:

Career OPS: .653

2017 OPS: .715

Career OPS vs RHers: .679

2017 OPS vs RHers: .740

How exactly is he part of any platoon that totals an .800+ OPS?

The Braves would be foolish to trade Albies for a rotation upgrade right now.

Yeah.

You guys should bet with each other since you aren't confident enough in your moronic ideas to wager stakes against me haha. I would recommend you guys stick you derping with each other in your echo chamber of stupidity.

Yeah.

And let's suspend your rights here if you do. Grow up you idiots.

I still say if we trade a package of prospects like Albies, Newcomb, and whoever else it should be for an elite offensive upgrade.

Wow! You already know what his numbers will be in 2017?!?!?

You really need a better job than that of Chop Country Resident Genius.

My prediction on the deal:

Braves get: Sale, Shields

Chisox get: Inciarte, Folty, Teheran, Albies

Braves rotation: Sale, Shields, Garcia, Dickey, Colon

Mallex plays CF

Jace/Demeritte future at 2B

Not saying I like it; just saying it's a middle of the road type compromise between today and the future that the FO seems to like.

If we trade Teheran, Inciarte, Folty, and Albies, I would instantly go from a big fan of the FO to believing they should all be fired immediately. That would make us worse immediately.

Yeah, no offense to HH but that is one of the worst trade proposals I've seen.

As I said, I wouldn't do it and I don't like it. I think trading for Sale now is a huge misstep under ANY likely circumstances.

BUT, the FO didn't sign Colon and Dickey for them NOT to be in the rotation. The didn't trade for Garcia to NOT be in the rotation. So, in ANY trade for Sale, I think it's easy to see at least one of Teheran or Folty going in the other direction. And, since the Chisox are rebuilding, I can see them wanting to shed Shields cost. So, I could see the Chisox package Sale and Shields together which would open the door for the Braves to package Teheran and Folty together. Then it falls to deciding who the other two from the Braves would be. I would expect the Braves to WANT to move Mallex but the Sox to hold out for Inciarte. And, I can't see ANY deal where the Sox don't get Albies.

I will quote my own post since so many here apparently are eager to jump the gun and unwilling to look at what was actually said.

IF a trade gets done, this is the TYPE trade I would expect.

Just trying to point out to all those "all in" on a trade for an ACE now how big of a folly it would be.

Chisox should be all over the Red Sox looking for a Sale for Moncada, Devers, Kopech deal. IF the Bosox wouldn't deal Moncada (and they might not since they have a huge financial investment tied up in him), then drop Moncada and add Groome and Basabe.

For a "win now" club like the Bosox, who also have virtually unlimited resources, Sale makes a lot of sense.

For the Braves, it would just be masturbation.

If the Sox want to make that deal then so be it. I have doubts that they want to though. Young players are immensely valuable right now as we move further away from thesteroid era. In no way should Coppy feel compelled to top that. I'd just let one of thoes pitchers get dealt so the market dries up on buyers for starters and see where the Braves stand.

The Redsox are true contenders. The Braves are not. Understanding where you really are should have an effect on the thinking. Unfortunately, fans want everything now, Now, NOW!

Haha I obviously meant 2016, but I bet his 2017 numbers are within 10% of those number and still won't lead to an .800+ OPS platoon.

Meant to put this here:

Braves acquire Len Barker for Brett Butler, Brook Jacoby, Rick Behenna

Both Butler AND Jacoby had far better careers than Len Barker. Butler alone had 2400 ML hits and a lifetime .377 OBP as a LO CF.

An argument could be made that Behenna actually had a better career post trade than Barker IF finances are considered.

But, hey, Barker once threw a no hitter. Not with the Braves. But once.

Braves finished 88-74, second in the NL West and missed the playoffs. Then went 80-82. Then 66-96. Then 72-89. 69-92. 54-106....

All the while Butler has established himself as one of the best LO hitters in the game (behind only Ricky Henderson) and Jacoby is hitting 20+ HR for the Indians.

The Braves misread their position and made a move that hurt for a decade.
