Winter Meetings Thread

We really don't need any.

We didn't really need any starters either, but if we can acquire some reliable vets to bridge the gap and create trade possibilities I can see us doing that.

JJ and Collmenter are safe as the closer and swingman/long reliever. Arodys' value is too low to trade. Other than that we could see some movement.

Offer Inciarte to the Gnats for Giolito. Sure, in division, blah, blah, blah...

But Gnats are ready to win now. Their window has been open for a few years and can only remain open for a couple more most likely.

The Braves window hasn't opened yet.

But, I wouldn't screw around. Inciarte for Giolito or go trade for Eaton if you can. Giolito's star dimmed a bit last year with his lack luster ML performance. Inciarte is likely at his highest possible trade value considering performance/cost metrics.

Braves put Giolito at AAA with Newcomb and let them learn for as long as it takes. Play Mallex in CF and hope he develops big value before trading him to make room for Acuna in 2-3 years.

Nats are the perfect team to go all in. Their core is really strong and has a couple of years left. Make a push and go for it.

I don't think it's sustainable and never said it was.

Not too hard imagine an 800

OPS is still possible considering he sat st 860 last year

A career year at age 31 that spanned a total of 300 ABs probably isn't sustainable. You're finally right about something! Congrats!

However, you said the Jace and SRod platoon would easily be 800+, and thus Albies is expendable.

Jace has never posted anything even close to .800, not even vs RHers. So please explain how the heavy side of the platoon posting a sub .800 OPS, coupled with the light side of the platoon "maybe" posting an .800 OPS going to produce an overall OPS of .800+? Further, please explain how that makes Albies expendable?

Absolutely, one of the reasons I wouldn't do it. However, I would seriously consider going after McCutchen if it meant flipping Markakis to another team and playing McCutchen in right.

Supposedly he's been vocal about not wanting to move from CF.

If we planned on Acuna being our CF by July 2018 we could theoretically acquire Cutch, trade Inciarte and Mallex this offseason and trade Cutch in 2018 at the break to make room for Acuna.

I don't think it would be a good idea though with our other OF's.

This exactly! If the Braves could add Cutch for Kakes I'm ALL for that!

That's the approach we should take. Coppy said going into the Winter Meetings that we have all of our needs filled and now we can go shopping for wants. That's exactly what we should be doing. We don't HAVE to do anything. We have the option of sitting back and making deals that make sense.

Sources: #SFGiants close on Melancon.

Man, I would have loved to get him. I am betting it gets over 60 million though.

The Braves signing a closer over 30 would be among the worst decisions in history.

checks teams roster..

closer --- JJ.. Hmm, I guess they didn't ask your advice.

MM has been one of the most consistent, and arguable the best, closers in the game the last 4 years. I would have loved to get him for 4 years.. NOT at 60 million.. obtaining quality players is not a bad thing. even if we are not competing.
