Might be your Abreu trade

Braves should be all over them after Dahl and/or Rodgers and/or Tapia and/or Nunez. Maybe Folty gets you Dahl and Nunez

Would do that in a heart beat... also sign Castillo and Turner.... trade for Quintana... :) easy as pie. Yes, I know there is no chance of this all happening, Enscheff...

With Seattle looking to trim salary, I wonder if Seth Smith might interest Coppy? He and Rodriguez/Jace would give us two pretty solid bats off the bench. Wouldn't offer much, but maybe another one of our surplus arms like Jenkins might work.

He's an awful defender with a +7 DRS? He showed plenty of offensive flashes in Chicago also and is only 29... he also throws out a decent number of runners. Don't know about his framing, but he's certainly not an awful defender at all. 2015 wasn't a great year with a -5 DRS but that was his only negative year and appears to be an outlier.

Although, his pitch framing appeared to improve some this year (small sample), he's been among the worst in baseball previously.

I'm so glad we still have all of our prospects in tact. I didn't figure Coppy would be dumb enough to go for a win now type move. Now next offseason is a different story.

I wouldn't be opposed to a 4-man bench. The versatility of some of our positional players makes this possible. Also allows Mallex and Ruiz to play everyday at AAA versus once or twice a week.

Flowers / Recker (C)

SRod (1B, 2B, 3B, RF, LF) / Jace (2B, SS, 3B, LF)

[RHH OF] (LF, CF, RF)

KJ (3B, 1B, LF)

He's "leaning" towards batting Swanson 2nd? Swanson batting 2nd should be one of the easiest calls he makes all year, and he's "leaning" towards it?

I can't wait for his 1 year contract to be up.

Any chance we pick up Seattle catcher Tyler Marlette in the Rule 5? He is their 30th best prospect and will be 24 with AA his highest level played thus far... BUT he's consistently put up some very good numbers in the minors... why is he rated so low?

Castillo's FRAA by year:

2016: -3.2 (8k sample)

2015: -11.6 (6k sample)

2014: -24 (8k sample)

2013: -16.7 (8k sample)

For perspective, 10 runs of value is the equivalent of 1 win.

He is, by all counts, a poor pitch framer. He is almost as bad as Wieters. He is very similar offensively to Wieters as well. The difference is Wieters is being sold as an impact player (no idea why this myth persists), while Castillo will probably sign for $5M per year over 2-3 seasons.

My guess is it's him or Dylan Unsworth?

Forgot about the PTBNL... Unsworth looks interesting, but I really like what I see of Tyler Marlette's potential at a position of need.

I'd guess that is our plan. It seems as though we're stockpiling catchers. That's not a bad plan for building assets.

He's the guy I want. Really hope we grab him

Seems like this is the leader in the clubhouse for worst FA signing so far this offseason. Your paying $70m and the 11th pick in the June draft for Desmond's age 32 - 36 seasons so that he can play some combination of 1B and OF. And this is happening in a market that is flush with available 1B and OF options.

And you are one season removed from the worst year of his career...weird.

#Braves checked in on #Orioles Brach. Asking price of Mallex Smith plus was viewed as too high.

The Braves have always loved Lucroy.

Interesting. We're in the market for high-leverage RPs? I'm not totally against it, but just a little surprised.

We have some good arms, but not a lot of experience. I could see us adding an arm or even two.

I thought Brach might be someone we'd be interested in especially with our new ex-Orioles additions to the staff.

Mallex plus is too high for two years of Brach though.
