WIthrow non-tendered

So far, this is the only non-tender. Also a chance Braves will try to re-sign him at a lower amount or to a minor league deal. Remember, his brother is a promising Class A pitcher for the Braves.

Recker signs on for one year, $800 K. Not a split contract.

Paco Rodriguez signs for one year, app. $1 million.

Other arb eligibles have been tendered contracts.

At least a little surprising IMO. Could be a signal that they like the way Paco and/or Winkler's rehabs are progressing and could point to Minter making the roster as well.

Of course it's completely impossible to tell where this is going given how hard it appears they're working to clear up 40-Man Roster slots.

Means we are signing marky m for 4/55. Boom.

When you add the fact that they saved $1,637,250 on agreements versus projections for Paco, Recker, and Withrow, they paid for most of the money they gave to Collmenter tonight.

Pen is shaping up like this:

2 lefties: Krol and Paco Rodriguez. With Minter, Biddle, Marksberry, Kolarek in AAA

5 rightes from among: Vizcaino, Johnson, Cabrera, Simmons, Ramirez, Winkler, Roe, Collmenter and Walden

Why is Collmenter still on the team?

Given the dearth of starters available this winter, maybe they feel like they can turn him into something just as good as Withrow that doesn't need to be rostered? Maybe Coppy can fleece the Marlins out of another Mader and Seymour.

The thing that Collmenter brings is an ability to go multiple innings as a reliever. That differentiates him a bit from the other contenders for the pen.

I think a player like that had more value to this team last year. Right now the rotation looks pretty stable and I could see the bullpen throw 60-80 less innings this year.

Maybe. But I also think they will try to go back to a 7 man pen. In that situation there is a need for a multiple innings guy.

Minter and Krol could be a great LH combo. Also always liked Biddle as a future RP. He'll need time but could be a solid reliever

You're probably right. Always a need for a guy who can give the pen a rest during a blowout type scenario.
