Would we trade Colon/Dickey/Garcia if we were hovering around .500?

We would not. We should.

IMO we are still a year away. And we need some guys to play in MLB.

I'd hope that at the deadline we are dealing all 3 of our new vet starters, Markakis and maybe even Flowers if he's having a good year.

I'm hoping some of Wisler, Blair, Newcombe and Sims are preforming well enough that they've earned some MLB starts.

Seeing these three names makes me want to go a little off-topic because of the Phillies trade for Clay Buchholz. The price for Buchholz was a fringe (if that) prospect from the Phils' A+ level squad. Would we have been better off obtaining Buchholz at a bargain basement price instead of obtaining one of the three veteran pitchers we ended up getting? Wondering what the thoughts on that would be. I'm no big Buchholz fan (and I'm surprised that he's already 32), but I wonder if we would have been better off with him and saving money (or players) in the process.

You weren't going to save money with Buchholz, he's at $12.5m. Question is whether you should've dealt a fungible prospect for him or Jaime Garcia (or perhaps not signed Big Sexy). I think they're all on the same shelf at the same store. Though I do like Buchholz, not much difference among that group.

IMO, Garcia is far and away the best pitcher if he can remain healthy. A healthy Garcia for a full year is almost an ace.

He's been outstanding for extended periods of time, for sure. I'd be very surprised if he picks now to get over his injury prone nature and start 32 times.

Sorry. I didn't look at Buchholz' salary.

Well he did finally start 30 times last year... for the first half, he was absolutely dominant. It seems he suffered from fatigue the second half. I'm not saying he's likely to stay healthy, I'm just saying he's very good when healthy and there were some signs last year that he's finally healthy. With that season under the belt and some more off season conditioning, the fatigue factor may not hit him as bad this year.

I don't know. It's amaing how guys can stay healthy in a contract year. If he could pitch like he did in 2015 and the frst half of 2016 he could have a great season.

There's an outside shot he has a healthy prodictive season, we hold on to him, and offer him a QO. Next year's crop of starters is bleak. Darvish, Arrietta, Tillman, and Duffy are the headliners and there is already talk of all of them signing extensions with their clubs. Darvish is the most likely to see free agency. After that it's guys like Alex Cobb, Jeremy Hellickson and Michael Pineda. There are no lefties after Duffy who is very likely to resign.

I still think Cobb will be an ace.

He's been a top my wish list this offseason. We forgot how good he is. He could have a very good bounce back season. I'm not sure if he'll hit free agency or not. It depends on who he gets traded to. He won't be in Tampa all season.

It's a good flyer, for sure. I was concerned that the falloff was so great as to suggest an undisclosed injury. Which is still possible. He gave up a lot of dingers late last year, which is location, which could've been caused by either injury or fatigue. Let's hope you're right.

Unless Tampa is in the hunt. And they could be. Interesting team. One bat and a few sound bullpen arms away, I'd venture.

I love Archer, but doubt we'll get together with Tampa on him. The more likely scenario now, I think, is Q from the Sox. If I'm Tampa, if some idiot wants to overpay me for one of those starters, I'd have to consider it....but I think Tampa ought to wait until July to see if they're in the hunt. Their biggest problem is they're in the wrong division.
