Wren Interested in Bringing Hudson Back

I think Medlen is an ace. He had a bad start in game 1, even aces have bad starts. Minor beat the 25 million dollar man in Greinke who most people see as an ace. We very well could have won that series if Kimbrel was brought in to start the 8th. Teheran and Medlen's bad starts does not mean that the next time they get a chance they wont pitch well. The pitching is not the problem here. The offense is the problem. We had 3 black holes in the line up and still won 96 games, thats thanks to the pitching. We got .198/.311/.357 production from 2B with 30% of those at bats being strikeouts. From CF we got .207/.297/.322 with 35% of those at bats being strikeouts. From SS we got .255/.304/.402 production. Andrelton adds a lot of value with defense but having 3 black holes in the lineup plus the pitcher is not a recipe for success.

All this talk about aces and its really just semantics. If Medlen, Teheran, or Minor threw 95+ mph people would call them aces. We had 3 of the top 25 starting pitchers by ERA this season. Sure we dont have a top 10 pitcher in ERA but only 2 of those top 10 pitchers are even pitching in the playoffs and its for the same team that beat us(Fredi). We very nearly beat a team that had 3 of the top 14 pitchers in ERA in a 5 game series, we need not overreact to that. We have a great team with an idiot for a manager, I whole heatedly believe we would have beat the Cards or Pirates if we faced them in the division series.

Beachy is the one guy that can go toe to toe with a Kershaw because his starts are usually efficient. He can go 7-8 innings and stay under 100 pitches.

Medlen can do it sometimes, Minor when he's on can get to 8 innings but that is like 1 out of 5 starts. Teheran is lucky to get to 6 IP.

Not to nitpick, but Beachy went 7 IP or more and threw less than 100 pitches only 1 time in 2012 (14 starts).

You must be watching a different Beachy than I've seen...

Yeah I dont see why or how Beachy is seen as more of an ace than Medlen. Beachy had a nice 2 months to start the 2012 season but Medlen had a 2 month stretch putting up half Beachy's ERA in that same year. If you wanna go by FIP then Beachy had a 3.49 ERA in those 2 months. Medlen had a 2.22 FIP as a starter in his 2 month stretch to end the year. Then over a full year this year Medlen had a 3.42 FIP. Not to be negative but even Horacio Ramirez had a dominate 2 months one year before being injured. Beachy in my opinion is just as good as the 3 we have in Medlen/Minor/Teheran but he is no more of an ace than any one of them are.

I still can't figure out how so many view Beachy as such a great pitcher.

He might well be, and we'll find out soon enough. You're right, though, because the expression comes up about "sample size" all the time. Then, a Braves starter is good 1/2 season, and he's suddenly "top of rotation."

You were another one who was on my ignore list @ Scout. That's what's needed here. It shouldn't be necessary for me to explain posts to people who don't bother to read clearly. The sarcasm ("Um") doesn't help your cause either.

Except it isn't a good starting point. You don't start your negotiations by offering up a fringe prospect like Terdo and decent but not great pitching prospect in Hale.

Any trade for Price begins and ends with one of Wood or Teheran and Bethancourt (whom the Rays have coveted for a while now). And it would take more than those 2 pieces. The Rays are notorious for asking the highest price for their players, and more often than not, they always get back great value or they don't make the trade at all. I can't think of one major trade the Rays have been involved in that they didn't completely hose their trading partner.

That's what I remember most about him as well. In 2011 he only made it past the 6th inning 3 times, and there were many games he didn't even make it 6.

You mean in his rookie season when he blew through the minors? Not a lot of pitchers are very efficient when they come up in their first year. Beachy clearly made huge adjustments the year he went down with TJ.
