Wren "dismissed" --

Bobby is in an impossible position. Any indication that he has a problem with Fredi and half the media will claim he is trying to push Fredi out to get his job back.

Yeah, thanks to Wren getting BJ and Uggla.

There's no evidence to support that either of those guys caused trouble in the clubhouse. Regardless, it's a manager's job to control that ****. I always said if the stuff we see Freeman and Medlen and other players saying is what they are willing to say to the media, MUCH WORSE is being said in the clubhouse.

I had to laugh, did you see the look Bobby gave that reporter when asked if he (and Hart) would consider stepping back into their former roles?

Anyways, the way he laid himself on the line for Fredi reminds of exactly why I wish he would step into the dugout again.

EXACTLY.

The #braves have also dismissed Frank Wren's brother Jeff, a special assistant and MLB scout with the team.

Tough day for the Wren clan.

I think Fredi needs to go here. Wren kind of scared me from the get-go and I've said about a thousand times that I always had the impression he was winging it instead of constructing a team according to a core philosophy.

It sounds as Coppolella has a more defined sense of things and although I am wary of guys who rely too heavily on advanced stats (if he indeed does), someone who could bring some balance to team construction issues would be welcome.

What no one has talked about is what this could mean to the scouting/player development part of the equation. DeMacio has done a pretty good job of identifying mid-range guys and getting them to the big leagues, but we really lack what I would term potential above-average position players in the system right now.

PS--Fredi should go as well. The participants in the discussion can defend him all they want and say the team hasn't quit on him, but the eyeball test says otherwise.

It's political. They aren't going to sit up there and trash the man. When he's fired, it'll be a, "You did a great job, but we want to go a different way. It's not you, it's us."

I doubt he is fired at this point, but I understand holding out all hope since not firing him is so stupid.

Fredi better be next. Hire Coppolella (i guess?) and start the process of looking for new management.

Bobby point blank gives Fredi a vote of confidence when asked by Dimino (?)

You honestly expected something different from Bobby, in public? I assume this is your first encounter with the man? ;-p (The wink ensures that you'll know I mean that in fun.)

I don't think anybody should be worked up over Bobby's endorsement of Fredi. If you know Bobby enough, you have to know that he would say that. Bobby is a loyal man and it's obvious, or should be, that the two are close. It's Bobby's loyalty that made so many of his players want to play hard and win for him. But, Bobby is not stupid either. If he sees someone can better lead the Braves in the dugout, he'll agree. I feel like right now, the odds of Fredi staying are at best 50/50. Take away the endorsement of Bobby Cox, and there was no indication that I heard that Fredi Gonzalez being the Braves manager in 2015 is any sort of a "slam dunk".

As far as the GM goes, it just seems to me that either Coppoella or Dayton Moore will get the job.

Fredi is Bobby's guy. He was on his coaching staff. Bobby is not going to throw his under the bus in public. No way in hell.

Which means, hopefully, that there's still a chance that Fredi will be gone.

Agree completely on Bobby's comments . . . exactly what you'd expect him to say. Doesn't really move the meter as far as handicapping Fredi's fate.

Regarding the next GM, Peter Gammons tweeted John Hart's GM tree earlier today which I've pasted below. I don't think any of those names are as realistic as Coppolella or Moore, but interesting nonetheless.
