GDT #19 4/21/14: Marlins (Koehler) @ Braves (Teheran), 7:10

#Braves have traded INF Tyler Greene to the Padres in exchange for a player to be named later. Greene was with AAA Gwinnett.

I didn't see why we re-signed him in the first place. Bad baserunner and poor defender whereever you put him. Plus he cannot hit much so makes sense to trade or release him.

Cashner?

Stunning trade so early in the season. I read it as a vote of confidence in Elmer Reyes.

It also could be that Nunez moves up to AAA to split duties (or back-up) at short. Kazmar is the only true shortstop at AAA now, so probably another shortstop coming there soon. Reyes would continue to start at short in AA regardless.

Two things of note:

1) When I promote this site to others, I tell them we have fans from foreign countries who became fans specifically because they found a baseball in their backyard from Jeff Francoeur in Orlando Florida (that's clearly not Turner Field).

2) That commercial makes me miss the days of Braves on TBS and Turner South, as it played like every commercial break. :(

Funny, but you may have the Cash part right. It may be the old PTBNL or Cash trade. If a player is involved it is likely someone the Padres have no need for anymore (same as us with Greene). In other words, no one worth mentioning most likely. But nothing wrong with hoping to get someone that amounts to something.

Maybe the Padres GM will confuse Tyler Greene with Tyler Pastornicky and actually give us a decent player back. OK not likely, but that would be nice. :)

Didnt we get Butcher for Rodrigo Lopez?

Cash would be nice. I think the Braves will be scraping pennies out of the couch if they are going to take on any salary this season.

They could also move Kleinkneght back up to AA to serve as utility infielder/backup shortstop.

Yea, but Lopez was actually pitching well in AAA at the time. Plus Butcher wasn't doing well (Buchter had a 6.55 ERA at the time). Of course it remains to be seen if Butcher's control ever comes around too.

Greene has been rather bad in AAA thus far too, unlike Lopez before that trade.

Looks like they've activated Mycal Jones to take Tyler Greene's AAA roster spot. Maybe we'll see Gosselin play some games at short. He's got the quickness and range.
