Around Baseball 2024 edition

I am 100% sure I was told that Murphy was the best player by far in that trade and that I should not be questioning that trade for including WC. I even went to say before the season started that I would bet someone WC would out WAR Murphy straight up. It looked rough for me when Murph went god like, but apparently he is a delicate little flower that is only good when it is below 90

Murphy did not impress me last year.

I wouldn't say that, the second half was a disaster.. but he was one of the best players the game through June.. I would rather have WC still, but Murph isn't the problem.. I know the A's carry a lot of blame, but the Braves gave up 3 players to get a catcher that is older and on par with what they already had. The whole trade didn't make any sense imo and one of AA bigger failures as a GM.

I agree. When I heard the players involved on our side and that some of of them were going to Milwaukee, I immediately assumed we must be getting a pitcher from Milwaukee, and that it was probably Hader. When all the players started getting announced from the other teams, and who was going where, I assumed there is was mix up on the reporters side, or there were more names going to be added, as there was no way Milwaukee was giving up so little. Then when the trade got confirmed by everyone, I was completely astonished and slightly disappointed that we spent so much trade value to only slightly improve our catching position.

William Contreras is 58th of 61 qualifiers for framing according to statcast. Could be why the braves preferred Murphy.

Philthies lost last night in extras after having Harper, Bohm, and Castellanos at the plate in the 10th. I just hate that for them.

I am not I like the Mets ever winning but I guess if you look at series as a whole. Diaz choked two saves and the Mets salvaged one game. So I guess that is good.

The Braves went after Murphy after seeing our issues with stolen bases in the postseason and the rule changes that were going to lead to more steals. I don’t think they believed Contreras would improve the way he did defensively.

All they had to do, turns out, was teach Little D to throw from his knees.

1.000 OPS first half, .585 the second.

Maybe taking the first two months off will leave a little more in the tank for later.

Watching Skenes vs. the Cubs. He struck out the first seven Cubs he faced before someone put one in play. Throws gas, but has a nice array of pitches as well.

Jesus. Kid looks awesome. 9 of 12 guys on strikeout. Perfect through 4. No way they risk his arm for a no no. Sitting over 60 pitches.

Physical size can be misleading, but Skenes at 6-6/235 has a relatively easy motion and can still run it up there close to triple digits. Smaller guys just have to expend so much more effort to throw hard.

Skenes should be getting his TJS right around the time Strider is back on the mound.

Pitchers are nastier than ever and unfortunately are all risks for major injury EVerything is about maximizing velocity and spin rate. And the way most people do that isn't good on the elbow.
