Trade targets?

Let me throw something out there. Would you take Swanson back if the Cubs ate about 10 million a year. He hasnt been good this year and was just okay last year. The Cubs have been through this before with Heywood. They also have the worst record since May 1st so they probably will sell in the not to distant future. They be willing to pay a serious chunk of Swansons salary to get rid of him. I know we want to get under that luxury cap next year so we could have the Cubs pay all of his salary in 2025 rather than just 10 million flat each year so we can get under the cap to reset the penalties. My idea of a trade would be Swanson, Bellinger, and about 50 million of Swansons salary paid by the Cubs for a couple low value prospects. Basically the idea is we are taking on Swanson and most of his remaining contract to get Bellinger. The other idea imo is expand the trade a bit. Swanson, Bellinger, cash, and then Pete Crow-Armstrong or another Cubs Outfield prospect in the high minors and we add Waldrep to the trade. The Cubs have a few high ranked OF prospects so there are plenty options. I am not the highest on PCA but his prospect shine has dimmed significantly. He hasnt hit a lick in the majors but does play elite defense and can steal bases.

I would take Swanson back if they are money. He's still projected to finish at 3.0 fWAR (or better) by almost all the protections on fangraphs
 
His production has been almost entirely from his defense. I dont know how much longer we could realistically expect him to remain an elite defender. Two years would be my guess before he is just an above average defender. He has a no trade clause so we might have some leverage in a deal if they actually wanted to dump him. He has a no trade clause and I cant see him waving it to go to too many places. I assume he would accept a trade back here.

Braves were correct to let Swanson go after a career year. There are better ways to get an imrpovement in the OF.
 
I have to imagine the plan is to go all in on Adames this offseason, which pushes Arcia to the bench. SS is literally the only opening on this roster, and there should be plenty of cash to make it happen. He should command something in the $150M+ range, and for a team passing the peak of its competitive window he is the exact type of splurge that makes sense.

I get not wanting to start Arcia everyday but I feel like I'd rather give Nacho a good look first
 
I looked over the roster and we have a serious roster crunch. After accounting for the players on the 60 day IL we have 46 players on the 40 man and only 7 scheduled to be FA. During the trade deadline we need to find a way to trade some pieces off the roster.

but do the Braves even have anymore Grissom's.. but yeah the gap in that trade reminded me of Cy's mom after last night.

I don't think it will be that difficult. I can see at least a half-dozen that will be DFA'd. Problem will come when they try to add in the off-season. I go on ad nauseum about it (in honor of the late clvclv), but this is why you don't bring up a guy like Waldrep because he now absorbs a 40-man spot at least a year before he would have had to. It's not the end of the world and roster management has generally been pretty good under Anthopoulos. I can see a trade like the Bummer trade taking place early during the off-season, where we unload four or more guys for one or two.

I'm probably alone on this, but I get a bit of a Grissom vibe on Alvarez. Too early to tell. Both guys raced through the system and put up really solid minor league numbers. Question on both is where do you put them in the field. If it is shown that Alvarez can't play shortstop at the major league level, he's in a similar pickle as Grissom. Too early to tell and I might be way off base. Just have to wait and see.

Alvarez looks like a no-power guy who can't play SS, so the Grissom comp is reasonable.

The unknown for me is whether his lack of power is an exit velocity or launch angle thing. If it's a launch angle thing there is hope he can follow a career arc similar in shape (though maybe not in scale) to Yandy Diaz.
 
Nacho is an interesting player. He's shown some promise, but what kind of a player is he truly? So many fans want him up now because of Arcia's bad season at the plate, but is he truly an answer. If he was showing more power, I'd be one of the ones calling for his promotion. So many Braves fans talking about outfield and pitching for the deadline, but SS has become a black hole in this lineup and needs addressing before the deadline.
