GDT 7/13/24: Braves @ Padres - A Fox Game

Braves just had a winning west coast trip vs two playoff teams. 6-4 overall in their last 10 including the Phillies. Can’t complain about that at all.

FWIW: Expected W/L has the Braves only 4 games behind the Phillies. Yes, they’re still 8.5 back because results are all that matter, and that 15 run loss today vs the A’s is doing some heavy lifting, but something to keep in mind. They’re is a lot more parity at the top of the NL than we realize right now.

Good news today on the Wild Card front as the Cardinals, Mets, Diamondbacks, and Padres all lost.

Amazing that the Pirates are just 1.5 games out of a WC slot right now. I wouldn't want to play them in a best of 3 series with Skenes and Jared Jones.

The “Chris Sale Trade” will go down as one of Alex Anthopoulos’ best moves as the Braves GM. Absolute wizardry.

A top 4 of Strider/Sale/Lopez/Fried could carry the team to a WS. Just sucks we're getting this version of Sale with him healthy, but Strider is hurt.

I'd say it was really impressive considering 1) the Braves usually play like ass on the west coast and 2)it ended the first half so I'm sure the guys are ready for a break.

Since June 13, when we ended that terrible rut we were in, we are 18-12, good for a .60 winning percentage (97 win pace). Our overall record is 53-42, good for a .5578 winning percentage (90 win pace). Without Strider, Acuna and Harris, I think a 90-97 win team is closer to the true caliber of team we are, based on the talent we have.

Harris coming back should give us a nice boon, putting us closer to the top end of that 90-97 win spectrum. Can 97 wins get us the division? Probably not, but the gap would be really close. Philly is currently on a 104 win pace and their schedule after the break is pretty brutal. It's doubtful that they maintain a 104 win pace. I think they end up somewhere between 98-101 wins. And that assumes they remain mostly healthy. They've been surprisingly healthy given how relatively old their core is.
