Trade targets?

Honestly it might be a good thing. Not for us because we don't want to add to our luxury tax cap, but for any other team doesn't his value go up if he willing to sign a long term extension. Since he has a base salary of only 800k he won't get a crazy amount in his last 2 arbitration years so that can be leveraged into a reasonable contract. Say 6 years 120 million. He is the one demanding an extension so atleast we know he is open to the idea.

If we could convince him to wait until after the season to do an extension it might be worth giving up AJSS, Waldrep, Baldwin, and Nacho.

Surely crochet demanding an extension to pitch in postseason devalues him some

It will probably scare a few teams off.. it takes his cheap control away.

I wonder how serious that is though.. you have a chance to win it all and you sit it out.. I can't imagine you would be very popular with a lot of players at that point.

Taylor ward probably needs to be the guy...
Vs rhp: 153 wrc+

Then platoon laureano/kelenic and ward/duvall. When Harris comes back, that's not bad.

Would the luxury tax would apply to an extension he may sign during the season? I mean his current contract he signed was to avoid arbitration, so wouldn't that be the one to count towards the luxury tax?

Edit: the Rafael Devers extension seems to confirm what I am saying. The luxury tax on his contract extension he signed last year didn't go into affect until this season since he signed his 2023 arbitration agreement before inking the new extension.

I do wonder if Schwellenbach solidifying a rotation spot makes AA more willing to trade AJSS and Waldrep. If your getting back 6 years of Crochet on a team friendly contract that has to be tempting. Betting a lot on health but that's potentially a generational rotation.

Yusei Kikuchi is another low key quality option I would love to have. Over a full run delta in his ERA vs FIP. Elite K%. Very good BB rate. Impending FA as well, so acquisition cost should be relatively low.

Coming to terms with the fact that we likely stand pat here at the deadline.

And tomorrow on the broadcast, AA will explain how it wasn't a lack of effort to bring someone in, but the prices were too high. Having said that he feels that we have the team that can compete in October

Another former top prospect from the "elite" Dodgers farm being dealt for what is essentially spare parts.
