Around Baseball 2024 edition

The Braves are not going to give up on Kelenic just yet. I don't see Heyward as an option.. maybe, just maybe if he clears waivers.. but I have a feeling someone will grab him.. the Braves won't put a claim on him with his salary still owed.

I agree. Why give up on Kelenic just yet. He's got some great qualities.

probably more of an optics point of view.. not a player point of view.. He isn't that great and hopefully he is just a lefty bench player next year. or traded for some lottery ticket since he will be super cheap.

I would much rather have Hayward than Duvall, that's for sure. Duvall is completely cooked and not worth an roster spot. He's had 1 hit in the last month

I mean, I would too.. But I just don't think he clears and I don't see the Braves kick Dufail to the road (paying him) and paying the rest of Heyward's salary..

Don't want Hayward or Duvall unless we are ONLY going to keep them for the post season. Would prefer not to see either one of them around next Spring. Don't think Duvall will be here in any case but def do not want to see Hayward here next Spring. Hope someone else picks him up.

Kelenic, Acuna, Harris, Soler is more than good enough next year, mix in possibly Laureano as well.

Heyward is a FA.

Agreed. The OF will be fine and Kelenic is a really good 4th OF. With the emergence of SS all we’ll need is another SP and i’d try to upgrade SS and use Arcia as a super sub.

I hadn't really paid attention to the Mets much this season. Their offense is legitimately good. Mark Vientos is going to be a problem for awhile, regardless if he's at 3b or 1b long term.

The team has literally done a complete 180. We went from stacked hitting team to stacked pitching team in one year. It's like there's some universal law that says you can't have both great hitting and pitching at the same time. If Sale broke his arm brushing his teeth and Lopez doesn't pan out I bet the offense is as good as last year. They even were the first month. Then the universal law kicked in to balance things out.

Also, I think the Braves will comfortably let Max walk because of Schwelly. He's very real. Honestly, what a blessing. Strider - Sale - Schwelly - Lopez - Anderson/AJSS/Holmes. We're good for 2025

And given how much AA has invested in pitching in the draft, it's a safe bet Max is gone gone. He'll be missed greatly, but there's more than enough to replace him short and long-term going forward.

I just wonder whether there is payroll room to accommodate him. They're better team with him than without him and the lineup remains pretty static. Maybe a SS and some bench work but it is what it is mostly.

The problem isn't affording him now. It's affording him 6 years from now. I just can't see investing 30+ million a year for a guy with his health record. It's a gamble every year that he will be healthy and effective come playoff time.

Agreed. You only bring Max back on a deal similar to Blake Snell's for him to rebuild value. 3 year deal with opt outs after every year.

But some team is probably gonna pay him around 6/180, because this year's SP crop took a massive dump from what it was projected to be. It was looking like a historical SP class about a year and a half ago.

His injury history since Tommy John is mostly just blisters and hamstrings.

Investing long-term in SP usually doesnt end well though. If we could get him for a 3-4 year deal, sure, but he'll probably want/get 6+ years at/near 30+ a year.
