Around Baseball 2024 edition

The expanded playoffs aren't really creating much suspense this season. The playoff field seems to be sorta set

Would there be any value in a parameter that computes the percentage of homers a player hits that would be homers in all 30 parks... or half of the parks? Maybe it would be kind of unnecessary with all the direct statcast data, average HR distance, etc... but it could provide a snapshot about just how dominate of a power hitter a power hitter is.

Quality of players my guy

It's always difficult to compare across eras, but I tend to agree with you. One doesn't know how power hitters in earlier eras would have fared if they trained year-round and had better coaching. That said, there is little doubt that pitching has improved immensely over the past few decades, which makes Judge's accomplishments pretty special.

Babe Ruth is the greatest power hitter ever and always will be.

Ruth clearly changed the paradigm. When he first led the AL in HRs in 1919, he hit almost triple the number of HRs (29 to 10) of the guy behind him--John Baker--whose nickname was "Home Run."

I hate this argument. The best pitcher of the last 75 years threw 89 MPH during the steroid era and still dominated the **** of hitters. And according to him (and several other HOF pitchers) the best hitter he ever faced was some 5'11 guy with 135 career homers over a 20 year career.

Great hitters are great hitters. Great pitchers are great pitchers. Stop with era non-sense. Put Ruth on diet plan and let him hit the first 4 years of his career and he might have had 900 homers

As long as his diet doesn't include booze. How Ruth managed to imbibe as much as he did during Prohibition is almost as impressive as his feats on the field.

Ruth is not hitting 900 homers if he played right now. Get that BS out of here
