GDT 9/22/24: Braves @ Marlins - Holmes before we go home

Even with the injury bug, we've still had a better roster than most of the league. And AA has plugged in holes about as well as you could without trading every asset. In that sense they should have more wins than they do.

When the team was mostly healthy the last two seasons, the offense carried Snitker and made him look like a genius because he didn't actually have to manage, and even then he mismanaged the bullpen many times. The DH being added to the NL really masked how bad of a tactical manager he is, and now that the injury bug has forced him to try and be creative, he's still doing dumb things like putting Ozzie in the 2-hole when OZ has been out for a long time and continues to kill rallies.

The margins are slimmer, and we have a manager who just expects the healthy guys we still have to carry the offense past his inept decision making. When Soler and Olson are hitting 2/3-run bombs and we're winning comfortably then Snit doesn't have to do anything. Then when we're losing these tight games because the margins and room for error are smaller, Snit goes on about how we just can't string any hits or anything.

We likely will win at least 88 games while missing Acuna and Strider for practically the entire season, and missing Murphy, Harris, and Ozzie for nearly half the season, and missing Riley for another 30+ games. Not to mention missed starts from Fried and Lopez.

I don't get this narrative that they should have more than 90+ wins with the players we have missed for most of the season. We would be an easy WC team in any other season in MLB existence, assuming the same 3 WC format. Snit has cost us some games for sure. But his decisions might have won some games we shouldn't have won as well (those are much harder to tell). Overall I would say our record represents the talent level we've run out for most of the season, which is an 88-90 win caliber team. I think Snit deserves at least some credit in providing leadership through countless injuries, but he also deserves a lot of criticism in his managerial decisions costing us some crucial games in the 2nd half of the season.

The frustration on my part is with the lack of urgency the whole season. They straight up forfeited a lot of games because they had to give extra rest to the SP only for Fried and Lopez to miss time anyways. And to top it off instead of making the best of a bad situation and playing to increase our chances in 2025 and beyond once Acuna/Strider went down we double down on this year and ****ed ourselves with another DH. The priority is making money not winning games and bailing on the season in June wasnt going to happen no matter how much sense it made.

Bailing on the season in June? In the middle of June the Braves were WC #1 with a 5 game lead. No team is going to bail on the season at that point regardless of who is injured.

Schwelly, Sale and Lopez deserve ALL the credit for keeping this season from being a complete disaster.. This team at full strength and with those guys is 105+ win team. Twit hasn't done a thing different than he did last year and the year before and 35 years before that. He naps in the dugout and lets the players play.

baseball does such a horrible job of being proactive and just being reactive. I know you can't predict the weather, but there is like a 90% shot of Wednesday and Thursday being a complete wash meaning they will have to figure out how to make up those games which would be after the season is over. Good luck.

Here's what's gonna happen. SS wins it for us tonight. The hurricane slows down so we get the Wed game in. Sale dominates in that win. Thursday game is moved to Monday. Sale gets to start again and beat the Mets to take WC #3. Sale won't pitch in the WC series but **** the Mets so I'm good.

Sure. But this team was missing Acuna, Strider, Harris, Albies, Murphy, for most of the season. Plus missed Riley, Fried, and Lopez for roughly a month each. The best we could hope for from this team was about 91-92 wins max.

If I told you in April we would have all these injuries and still win 88 games, you would have taken that in a heartbeat and assumed we would easily make the playoffs with that record.

That would be great.

This is the way.

And Webb is going to eat AZ’s lunch tonight too.

And hopefully we got Slippy ready to take the GDT.

LFG

How funny would it be if they had to face Sale twice bc of the weather lol
