GDT 10/1/24 - Braves @ Padres - AJSS for WC Game 1

I’m sure everything will be chalked up to a season of to many injuries to over come and the coaching staff will be given one more season.

I mean how many teams in baseball can survive the injuries the Braves have? Currently we're missing our top 2 hitters and pitchers right now. Strider and Acuna basically missed the entire season. That's like taking out Cole/Judge on the Yanks, Ohtani/Yamamoto on the Dodgers, Harper/Wheeler on the Phils, plus others. That's not even including Ozzie missing 6+ weeks, Harris out a few months, plus Fried missed a month as well. Riley's been out for like a month or longer as well. Literally like every good player we have missed time. Minter out since god knows when as well.

AA does need to make a few tweaks to the roster but there's not much you can do if all your good players go missing b/c of injury every other week. If healthy, this is an easy 97+ win team but when you have this many injuries, it's nothing you can do.

Yeah losing your 2 best pitchers and hitters and 2 of your other top 5 hitters is alot to overcome and nobody else could have done it. Its a miracle we made the playoffs at all.

I am usually all over twit when he does dumb things.. which is usually everyday..

So it is only fair to point out that I thought he managed the game really well last night. He didn't immediately punt the game by leaving AJ in.. nor did he burn Elder who could be used as mop up duty if the team gets way ahead. He didn't burn Bummer, which is huge.. and really he covered 8 innings with 3 guys under 30 pitches each.

Maybe he could have pinch hit for Arcia late, but that is griping just to gripe at that point.

Agreed. My issue stems from their pitching strategy from the jump.

so what are the surrogate teams for everyone when the Braves are bounced.

Think I am going in this order
Tigers
Royals
O's
Brewers
Indian.. oops Gaurdians
Metts
Friars
Trashstros
Dodger$
Stankees
Database Error
Asteroid
return of Covid
Faillies

The Braves have had a top 5 offense in the NL basically every year Seitzer has been the hitting coach, save for this year. I think people are letting one bad season compounded by injury to shape their opinion. I think he deserves the BOD.

But to be honest? I think he already has a good bod

This is funny man- nicely done

I thought starting Smith-Shawver was a bit odd, but given the circumstances, someone had to go and I guess it might as well have been him. He gave up 20 HRs in 87 IP at Gwinnett, so working on something or not at AAA, they were clearly rolling the dice.

yeah, the homerun ball was a problem this year. 8 homers in 31 innings in the bigs.. (that includes last year too).. not sure he will have a lot of success giving up 2+ homers per 9 innings..

I laughed, thanks. Dodger$ and Stankees are too high though.

Deester and I rag on this all the time, but Smith-Shawver still needs to learn how to pitch. I will wait to see Enscheff's analysis, but if he's throwing a mid-90s fastball that's straight as a board, he's going to get rocked unless he develops solid secondary pitches.

I mean I can tell you that.

His Fastball is average. he avgs 96 with decent 'rise' but bad horizontal movement.
His curve is a good pitch with descent horizontal break but better vertical break
Savant calls his third pitch a change up, but it has low spin like sinker.. so I think it is a sinker. again this pitch is average to barely above average. probably would play up a bit more if he took a few mph off it (86 down to 84ish).

But all those pitches are below average with his command. The split generates a good whiff rate, but because he doesn't locate other pitches well it is not as effective.

He needs to develop command and control and I think needs to add another hard pitch.. slider or cutter..

again, this is not on a large sample size, so there could be some changes as more stat cast data gets compiled.

man looks there will be a huge meth party this weekend. the Stros and Braves will be bounced.. both meth heads can sample their latest creations since they won't have to worry about baseball getting in the way.

Unless Baltimore comes back, one of KC/Detroit/Cleveland/NYY will rep the AL in the WS. Best chance the Yankees have had in ages to make the Show.
