Looking towards 2025

Of course the Braves have extended players that would otherwise have hit free agency. Maybe it's semantics, but I was talking about signing new players. And Ozuna originally signed for 1 year only, and then got the extension when he put up an MVP-caliber season in 2020.

Still, even your examples show that the Braves have not been willing to get into a bidding war and overpay for a player, even a beloved franchise icon. Will they go after Adames if his price tag is reasonable? Sure. But how likely is that for the top guy in an underwhelming SS class?

Ozuna didn't get an extension. He went to free agency after 2020. Everyone had a chance to bid on him.

I would be surprised if they went after Adames at the projected Years/AAV. I thought Tommy Edman might be a FA, but he's not. I don't know if Edman could cut it as a full-time SS, but he'd be a good guy to have around provided the front office would make Snitker use him. Outside of Adames, it's a crap market at SS.

Yes, I know. Like I said, that part is arguing over semantics. The Braves had Ozuna in 2020, and based on that year, they signed him to his current contract. They didn't commit to an unknown commodity.

The bigger point remains the same: They were only able to sign Ozuna because the market for him was relatively subdued. His asking price fell enough so that the Braves felt he was worth the gamble.

AA seems to prefer high AAV gambles over 1-3 years on potentially impact players.

So while I don't have a list of names, Bichette is the current SS who fits that profile.

I still think AZ is a good trade partner for us. They are looking for a bat to replace Walker and Pederson. They have several SS under team control and the Montgomery contract that they have soured on.

I would totally take on Montgomery for 1 year if Perdomo came along with him. May be swap them Soler and a couple of pitchers (Elder and Anderson) to balance some of the cost and give them a solid bat.

That would give us another lefty SP we need.

Soler would probably be a beast in that park. I want Bichette for SS I think. There’s no way he just lost it, right? I like the thought of Montgomery but I fear his fall off may be a bit more real.

I think Soler for Montgomery would work pretty well as the base of a trade. AZ is kind of in a payroll crunch and their owner admitted the Montgomery contract was going to hold them back and it was his fault for that. Pederson will probably opt out of his contract so Soler would fill that DH spot for them. Soler will mash in that park. I could also see Pierce Johnson being in the deal to even out the salaries a little more. AZ is frequently in need of relievers and Johnson has the right combination of recent success and no long term risk. He even comes with a bonus of an team option if he pitches well. Montgomery is also from Georgia.

I would like Bichette as well. Not sure if he will be traded. From what I gather from scouting BJs forums Bichettes swing puts too much stress on one of his knees causing injuries.

Ahem, Jordan Montgomery is not from Georgia.

$30m per seems like a lot to invest in a good, not great defensive SS who hits for power, but with below average exit velocities.

I like Adames a lot but I have some reservations using possibly my last big bullet on him.

Just sayin, it’s $25m per. Not 30

The ghost of clvclv applauds you! He was from North Carolina (and researched just about every high school and college player from the state), but he also was a big booster of players from the other Carolina as well.

All of you are wrong, he is actually from Sumter, South Carolina. Haha

Edit: Now looking back, I think maybe I read it wrong and you were just talking about clv being from NC
