Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Or, and hear me out, other teams can stop being cheap and do the same damn thing. Teams need to show they want to win - so pony-up.

no one is going to be able to compete with the Dodger$. They have their own RSN that is a complete cash cow. Until MLB actually handles revenue disparity, then teams like the Dodger$ will always be spending way beyond other teams can. Baseball is dying in my opinion and it is a direct result of the owners and leagues not actually trying to run this like a business.

It sucks that the rich get richer. But at the end of the day, it is likely much ado about nothing. The Yankees spent like 400+ million 15 years ago when they bought Tex and CC in the same off-season and everyone thought they were ruining parity the sport. That off-season bought them exactly 1 world series.

Angels sign Yusei Kikuchi to a 3/63 deal.

Might be a slight overpay, but the Angels aren’t an attractive team to play for right now. In that sense, it’s a decent pickup for them.

I don't think it's much of an overpay. I think he could have gotten a similar deal elsewhere. He probably just wanted to be on the west coast so he is a shorter flight home.

Not sure if it’s much of an overpay if any… also didn’t have a QO attached. Yusei has been really solid

Haven’t heard much out of Burnes and where he ends up. I think Sasaki throws a wrench in some of these guys plans.

Winter meetings don't start for two weeks, so I would expect some movement prior to then. Anyone here have the projected salary of Kikuchi? Curious if that will be a benchmark of any sort.

Cubs reportedly aggressively shopping Bellinger. The Cubs don't have a need for him anymore as they are loaded with unmovable contracts and good prospects. I won't be surprised if we get him with the Cubs eating money or giving prospects. I would think another team needing a CF would value him more but with our issues last year we need a position versatile guy like him that isn't a platoon hitter. Luke Little is a good LH prospect I like with plenty of service time and minor league options left. Brandon Birdsell and Brody McCullough are two more prospects I would love to get back. All 3 aren't high ceilings guys but could be fill roles on the team for league minimum for a few years to help our payroll situation.

Bellinger doesn't fit the usual Anthopoulos move, but it would all depend on how much the Cubs were willing to kick in on salary. Kind of a woofer contract with two $25MM+ years remaining.

Doesn't fit the AA move how? He is overpaid but on a short term deal. Even if he just repeats 2024 he would likely opt out after this year. We could structure the trade so the Cubs pay some if he doesn't opt out. I don't think he wants to be on a losing team so he might agree to void that last year to go to a contender.

MH has missed serious time every year since his rookie year. Bellinger would give us a good option if that happens again. Plus Bellinger is a low K guy. We need to mix some of those in with our sluggers.

It would all depend on how much salary the Cubs will kick in. I don't think Anthopoulos would want to assume $20+ MM on a deal like this. Have to remember, more salary the Cubs pick up, the higher level of prospect they will want back. It can work but I think it would be difficult to find the sweet spot.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/11/mariners-to-hire-kevin-seitzer-as-hitting-coach.html

The Mariners plan to hire Kevin Seitzer as hitting coach, reports Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Edgar Martinez, who finished last season in that capacity, will remain with the M’s in an overarching role. Kramer writes that Seitzer will report to Martinez, so it seems the franchise icon is still the team’s lead hitting voice. Martinez is not expected to regularly travel with the team on road trips, though he’ll be involved at Spring Training and during the majority of the club’s home games. Adam Jude of the Seattle Times tweets that Martinez’s official title will be senior director of hitting strategy.

Additionally, Kramer reports that the M’s are hiring Bobby Magallanes as assistant hitting coach. The 55-year-old spent the last four seasons working under Seitzer as an assistant hitting coach with the Braves

Tim Britton at the Athletic had his projected contract to the tee. He projected 3/63, and he got exactly that.
