That's how MLB counts multi-year extensions and deferred money seems like a multi-year extension in some ways. Like striker said, MLB really has to address this issue.

I’d be good with that. The Dodgers are the richest team in baseball right now and are using deferred money to make it even worse. But like NYC said, I don’t see how the smaller teams can ever be competitive at this point.

Dodger signing Snell is so smart imo. For any team wanting to win world series a guy who consistently is lights out in the second half is invaluable. Who cares if it takes him a month or two to get going the Dodgers are virtually a lock for the playoffs. Honestly if I was them I wouldnt even let Ohtani pitch. Maybe as a reliever or closer. His bat is too good to let him be a SP where he will just get hurt again.
 
48 is a lot for one player. Soto isn’t great on defense but is serviceable. At least Ohtani could be a lights out closer.

Boston with the short left field would be perfect for Soto. The only curious thing to me is they are already very LH heavy. I would think signing Soto means they trade for Crochet as well using some of those LH hitters.

I had the same thought when I saw the rumor. Boston currently has 3 prospects in the Top 20 and another 2 in the Top 100 in the MLB site prospect rankings (which often doesn't mean much). Signing Soto would be a huge lift financially, but their current standing in terms of prospects may allow them to put lower cost guys at a number of positions or trade prospects to shore up their weaknesses. About all I know is that the Soto rumor probably has the addled Red Sox' fan base all atwitter.
 
I don’t think the Yanks will let him leave for Boston. They’ll pony up whatever it takes to keep him with Judge.

I can't remember the other poster, but someone else and I really wanted Edman at the deadline. Just a good player to have around. Dodgers can now let Hernandez walk (and bring him back for the post-season).
 
It's monopoly money for them. MLB made sure to take care of them when it came to TV rights to make sure they didn't get jipped. Not us though. We aren't one of the golden teams of MLB.
 
Braves signed RHP Connor Gillispie to a one-year contract.
No word yet on the financials of the deal, but it’s believed to be a non-guaranteed split contract. The 27-year-old hurler looked sharp in eight appearances with the Guardians in 2024, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and an 8/5 K/BB ratio across eight innings. He’ll add another weapon to the Braves’ middle relief corps.
