The Biden Presidency

The 3 he didn't commute. Roof, the Boston bomber, and the synagogue shooter.

I guess those were just too politically unpopular

Oh, he should have commuted their death sentences too. Pure cowardice on his part not to do so.

But I guess at least Trump will still get to execute 3 people, right? And they’ll even be the worst of the worst? How exciting for fans of state murder come January!

Yeah... people who murder children in cold blood can be hung by a rope rather than cost tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollar to keep their pathetic existence in check

But the thing I like most about you is your consistency in going to bat for people who commit the worst possible crimes imaginable

Not condoning murder is not a defense of murder. I’m not wishing them a happy and fulfilling future. I just don’t see it as our government’s job to decide whether or not any of us get to be killed.

Then why have laws at all? It's not the governments job to decide our fates

Especially since they get it wrong a significant portion of the time. What's the acceptable percentage of innocent people we are willing to murder to ensure real killers get the death penalty? Those of you with kids. Imagine your house catching fire and your Christmas decorations which are very very flammable cause the fire to spread so quickly you can barely make it out of the house.... But your kids weren't so lucky. Then because you listen to heavy metal music and a government "expert" on arson says a burned spot in the house vaguely looks like a pentagram they arrest and convict you of murdering your kids. Then they execute you. Then it's revealed the expert was just making **** up because nothing he was doing was based on science and was literally just guess work after your dead. And no one is held responsible for murdering you. That's a true story btw.

My solution is to hold the executioner responsible for murder of the person the execute turns out to be innocent. Just because the government says it's okay to kill a person doesn't make you any less of a murderer of self defense is not involved. That sounds harsh but maybe if we can't find anyone willing to carry out the execution of a person their conviction wasn't beyond a reasonable doubt to begin with.

No, one of the things we entrust our government with is our safety. It is in the public’s interest to keep these people from harming others. Me not wanting the government to have the power to kill them doesn’t mean I’m in favor of lawlessness.

Not having the intestinal fortitude to just make it all 40 was a political blunder as well.

Compassion cloaked in naivety

There are a lot of ways we could make prisons safer if we just committed to not overcrowding them with those that commit victimless crimes or by overcharging petty criminals. The prison system in America is what we made it.

Silly the context in which you are arguing this point. What do you think someone who is on federal death row committed to be in that position?

Bad things. But if we reduced the strain on the prison system we could probably handle the 37 of them easier.
