You look at the physicists who built the A bomb and you see that fortunately this country is continually renewed by streams of immigrants. Often fleeing persecution and hardship in their home countries.
The details change from generation to generation. But the contributions to the greatness of this country by immigrants are a sort of cosmological constant.

Fermi--Italy
von Neumann--Hungary
Ulam--Poland
It's them and many others that made this country a super power.

The other thing about immigrants is they have a solid grasp of the value of an education. Especially an education at an American university. While American kids are wondering if it is for them, the fereiners are flocking to our schools. And then American kids get upset when those fereiners eat their lunches.

It is all about the Benjamins to the Tech Billionaires. But you also need to accept that for many in the MAGA/Trump movement the goal was never to stop at illegal immigrants and criminals because to some ‘whiteness’ is what needs to be protected, not merit or the middle class or whatever. The very same people positively advocating for the Monroe Doctrine suddenly have very strong feelings about foreign invaders. There is masked-off White Nationalism happening within this discourse. I’m not attributing it to you, anybody on this board or Republicans/MAGA as a whole, but today there have been a lot of very prominent MAGA personalities that took offense to Vivek’s comment and decided it was open season on Indian people.
Also, I double dog dare any of you to read Vivek’s tweet, replace American with Urban and the pop culture references with rap music and basketball and not come away with an argument that is basically the mainstream in Conservative media. Weird how the high IQ and cultural values crusaders came to a screeching halt once *their* culture was being looked down upon.
White immigrants are okay. They know how to act.

While kids of native-born Americans are wondering if college is for them, the ballers are hard at work learning new skills and building new companies. My son just finished a masters program in data science where over 90% of his fellow students were from India or China. No slackers in that group.

71% of graduate students are from abroad. World-beating universities are part of the secret sauce of the greatness of this country. And foreigners are smart enough to recognize it. The faculties of those universities are also highly diverse in terms of national origins. In my department I have colleagues from Ecuador, Jamaica, China, South Korea and Indonesia (and I'm leaving out those who are children of immigrants). Massive ballers all. One of them just received his citizenship--a proud moment. The best come here to be trained. The very best stay here and make massive contributions towards keeping America great.
