Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I just want the market to pick up so I can be less frustrated. It's tough knowing your favorite team's roster was nearly at the top in terms of value going into the season, only for the closest team to use common sense and improve while yours has actively gotten worse.

Since MLB is dead set on letting the dodgers just buy everyone while in some cases skirting the rules, throw double birds up and sign trevor.

Yep, it's been another hibernation week from AA, so let's revisit Bauer for the 1000th time.

Bro, no. There's a zero chance it happens

One name I havent heard much about is Jose Iglesias. Had a good year with the Mets. He isnt that good butI think he would be better than Arcia. He shouldnt cost much so I cant see why we wouldnt have signed him already. Even if its as a utility player.

So Arcia was the worst regular in baseball last year and we don't upgrade that?

No, AA is too conservative/scared. While I love what AA has done here being conservative, it's time to be a little more aggressive. This window is starting to close some, and we need to push our chips in.

The only time I can think of AA really going in some was the 2021 break when he added some guys that got a WS here. Stop being so damn scared, AA... the fans gonna bitch either way, so be a man.

Do you expect him to be the worst regular hitter in 2025? He's still a plus defender at short and should be a 1 WAR player.

Not sure why would should expect a bad hitter to be better. At least get an insurance policy.

You are looking at it wrong. We got almost nothing from our 2 best players last year. They might not start the year but we were a playoff team without them. We want to be the best team in October not March. Understand that **** changes rapidly in baseball. For example no one could have predicted Schwellenbach breaking out in the majors last year. Someone like AJSS could be that guy this year. Maybe Waldrep replaces Jiminez and is lights out. We are a very young team with several decent prospects on the cusp. We should get better by simply doing nothing. Look at our rotation last year. Strider was probably the safest bet going into the season and it was injury prone Sale, reliever Rynaldo Lopez, and A ball pitcher Schwellenbach who exceeded even our wildest dreams. Baseball is a funny sport.

I agree. AA is trying to build the system up to extend the window but there comes a time when you have to be aggressive and go for a certain player or players to push you over the edge. Maybe he is trying to get below the tax bracket for next offseason when Tucker and Cease are both FA.

I 100% think AA is punting (in a way) this season and trying to get under the tax.. sure he floated some rumors and made some offers that he knew wouldn't be accepted to look good.. But I think he wants to see how Acuna and Strider bounce back and is saving any and all of his bullets until the deadline... He will grab some pen depth, but it will keep the payroll under still.

An Arcia replacement is a deadline move. LF too for that matter. The offense as a whole should be stacked. Replacing JJ and Morton should be the biggest priorities.
