Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Jays acquiring 2 million in bonus pool money. I think that is good news on the Sasaki front.

Most of the top International FAs are gone. So it would seem odd for the Jays to acquire 2 million in bonus pool money for players outside the top 50.

Yup, the Jays can offer $3M more than the Dodgers right now

An extra $2-3 million is potentially nothing when you factor in the endorsements he'd get in LA, and the long-term coaching and guidance that would allow him to cash in on a mega second contract.

Who knows what he's thinking.

I'd still be shocked if he picked Toronto.

If this were the case, why would they acquire the money? Apparently it means something to sasaki, or common sense says the jays wouldn't get it.

Possible. Sasaki will probably just let dodgers trade for that much now, and the jays just get screwed

I already told you guys that the Dodger$ are pulling a master class in off season winning... they are improving a world champ team and now have Saki trolling the Jays to trade for international fa dollars..

We'll see. I don't foresee him signing for less to be a dodger, so I think the jays are at least making the dodgers work for it.

I still find it odd that the jays are in it. Perhaps Hyun Jin Ryu (played for both) is advising sasaki.

What endorsements are available in LA that aren't available in Toronto? I don't think the guy can speak English.

He may very well choose LA, but it's not because of endorsements

And LMAO on the long term coaching and guidance bit. The Dodgers have been collecting elbows in droves the last 5-6 years.

I 100% think AA is punting (in a way) this season and trying to get under the tax.. sure he floated some rumors and made some offers that he knew wouldn't be accepted to look good.. But I think he wants to see how Acuna and Strider bounce back and is saving any and all of his bullets until the deadline... He will grab some pen depth, but it will keep the payroll under still.

In a season where he knows the team is already guaranteed to be handicapped, this is a very logical course of action.

It's also extremely disappointing.

There's a ton to speculate on here...

Perhaps he wants the honor of getting the highest bonus of this class.

Perhaps the endorsements will be better in Toronto since he's clearly the biggest Asian star in that market.

There's a reason Ohtani also seriously considered Toronto.

I still refuse to believe there isn't a series of 3-4 moves about to unfold that fills most of the roster needs once the Sasaki dam breaks.
