Five years is brutal, but I get why they went overboard to get someone lol I'm guessing they sign Alonso now
Yeah 5 years is too much for Santander.

AA is catching so much crap right now from pretty much every media outlet saying he's failed and has had the worst offseason in his tenure and is on the hot seat. I know he'll do something but sometimes you have to overpay to get the piece you need and quit being so arrogant. One of Minter or Scott should be on this team right now. Sucks to see the offseason waste away.
This is the easy answer.
They probably won't be selling off any pieces now
Would the offseason be a success if they sign Profar, Kim, and Scherzer, and trade with the Twins for Lopez+? And maybe switch AJSS and Waldrep to the bullpen?
That would be a resounding success, yes. Lmao that's definitely not happening. They don't need Scherzer and Lopez, though. At that rate, just use Scherzer's money for a relief arm.
They absolutely need another SP.
we don't need both Lopez and Scherzer. They absolutely need another SP.
That's right. He normally makes his big splash on the trade market. The issue is the trade market is dry as hell. If he can't do it there, he absolutely has to change his approach, but it seems he's unwilling to do so, and potentially to the detriment of the team. What’s likely to happen is AA will sign whichever SP is left over and willing to take a 1 year deal. As for the outfield bat, likely the same. We’re not spending significantly on anyone. AA just won’t invest years and money into any major free agents.

Santander was a guy who I thought would be left standing at the beginning of spring training. I see five years for him as a huge mistake on the part of the Blue Jays.
I spoke too soon about Perdomo being third lefty. Chasen ****ing Shreve.
