Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

What do you think the Braves do next?

I’m thinking they grab Stanek or Jansen (though I’m not sure if Jansen is only looking for a closer role) and then move to adding a starting pitcher. I honestly think AA is working hard on Cease right now, but will eventually pivot to someone like Quintana or Heaney on a two-year deal.

Could they move Darvish instead ?

I didn't realize the diamond collapse hit them as hard. They really lost a lot of revenue last year and getting tied up in court ain't helping.

I wonder if Bauer remembers that only once in his career did he start 20 games and keep his ERA under 4 for a season. He wasn't even the ace on the Baystars.

I get bravado and machismo and swagger and so on so forth, but homie is straight up delusional. This is like some random joe thinking he can get a 5 yard run in the NFL.

I still think it's BS like this that keeps Bauer out of the major leagues as much as his sexual practices.

I think he is to. He wasn't Cease but is probably wanting to get an extension done before and that's gonna be a problem. King is pretty good to and may be easier to acquire and extend.

I think AA spends the next week trying to trade for someone like Cease or King, and then pivots to signing a FA like Flaherty.

What AA should not do is allow SD to hold them hostage into ST and then sign a FA SP in March. Siging in the middle of ST seems to always ruin the SP for that season, at which point the signing becomes a waste.

Either complete the trade by Feb 5th (or about), or sign a FA SP so he has a week or so to get everything in order to have a normal ST with the Braves.

Yeah if he adds a SP, it needs to be before ST. I'd be fine with Cease or King if the price isnt crazy. Otherwise, Heaney, Quintana or Flaherty are more than fine on a prove it deal if they'd take it.

I think at the least you have to take a flier on Max or Heaney or someone that can cover 25 starts if needed. At this point, they shouldn't cost top dollar.

Infielder Ha-Seong Kim and the Tampa Bay Rays are in agreement on a two-year, $29 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season. Kim is coming off shoulder surgery but is expected to return in May and slated to take over at shortstop.

Kim to the Rays, 2/29, opt out after year 1. Passan said he should be ready by around May. I would have done that but Arcia is probably fine in the 9 spot.

I'm still all in on the idea of Estevez. He's talented and brings tons of high-leverage experience. But I'm admittedly fine with Jansen, Robertson, etc.

One of those three feels pretty important to us. I did hear AA say the other day that there’s still a chance Jimenez comes back at the All Star break, but we need another high leverage righty.

Sounds like Joe will be back, just TBD when. I like Estevez or Robertson though.
