Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Strider and sale's health are big concerns. SS#2 is a 2nd year guy that may or may not replicate last season. That's are key cogs. This rotation has complete bust potential. I'd like to see more urgency in insuring it doesn't blow up in our faces.

Every pitcher is a health concern. Even "Mr Blister" Fried.

At the end of the day we just need our pitchers to be healthy for the playoffs. And that hasn't been the case in the last 3 years no matter who we have had in the rotation. And even when they are healthy they **** the bed (Fried).

Contreras to Murphy is maybe a downgrade. I think Murphy comes around big time once he's back to full time.

Fried to Ian/elder is a huge step down. If taking a chance is what's needed to make sure we don't have to count of one of those two, then it needs to happen.

Contreras is basically free, and right now that extra cash would be very handy to have. It was a very questionable trade followed by a cringe extension. Anyone who wasn't busy patting themselves on the back for being a Braves fan understood this at the time. Many around here said as much the moment the deal went down.

This is very quickly turning into an F offseason for AA.

Based on the comments on the last few pages the board has moved into the phase of the offseason where they excuse everything AA hasn't done with contrived logic about why so-and-so is going to be just fine, or why so-and-so isn't really any better than whoever.

Right-hander Jack Flaherty and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a two-year, $35 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season

Grade A move from the Tigers. They waited for the last impact SP to be left without a home, which happens every single year, and then signed him for 1/3 the predicted contract. They did so early enough that the SP's preparation for ST will not be affected.

I suspect they are about to also get Bregman.

Yep. You were optimistic that AA would fill the holes like he did LF, but it doesn't appear likely to happen.

Sucks for all of us Braves fan.

It will be a true dogfight to make the playoffs and earn the right to face the juggernaut Dodgers.

I can’t believe Preller is that stupid. Either that or he’s operating in bad faith and isn’t really interested in dealing Cease.

Then why would AA spend so long negotiating? Why would he allow Preller to hold his rotation plans hostage until early Feb?

AA needs a legit SP, and the last FA option just came off the board.

Kyle Glaser said the Braves would have to send Schwelly, Kelenic and Baldwin to get Cease. LMAO

LOL, Schwelly has enough trade value to get both Cease and King. Even pessimistically, if you think he's more of a 2-3 WAR pitcher than 3-4+ WAR pitcher, he still has more than 100 million in surplus value.

I think the price was probably a fake leak. I don’t buy for a second that AA entertained trading Schwellenbach - he didn’t at the deadline, and I doubt he’s changed his stance. But I do believe Kelenic and one of our top prospects were/are in play. I wouldn’t be shocked if Preller operated in bad faith here, but asking for Baldwin was already pushing it. Mentioning Schwellenbach on top of that would probably piss AA off.

Maybe Glaser got his names mixed up and confused SS for AJSS. That is a much more believable ask. I would not make that trade, but it's much more likely that is what SD is demanding than Schwelly.

Whoever this guy is, he can be safely ignored. There is no possible way this was ever a real ask. Is it really that easy to get people to believe made up info on twatter and drive traffic for yourself?

What is very possibly real is AA negotiated with Preller so long he missed out on every FA backup plan. Hopefully that equally unreliable rumor about AA having a backup trade lined up is true if the Cease talks really do die out.

only a dogfight if half the team is injured again

I commented on the twitter link and tagged him. He replied that the Kyle Tucker trade was proof that this is the sort of market that Cease and King have.

Teams at the peak of their contention window aren't trying to win more games. They should be making plans to raise their floor.

Right now the floor for the Braves rotation is Sale goes back to being injured just like he was in October, Strider doesn't come back well from his 2nd TJ, Schwelly regresses in his 2nd year, and/or Lopez continues to have shoulder issues as a SP.

Saying "all pitchers are risky" as if the Braves rotation doesn't carry extra risk compared to other championship-level teams is sticking your head in the sand. The Braves don't have a single reliable SP on the entire roster.

AA needs another legit SP.

Latets W totals on DraftKings:

Braves- 92.5

Mets- 90.5

Phillies- 91.5

Feel free to go make a ton of money.

So we're being projected as the 2nd best team in the NL, but somehow it'll be a dogfight just to make the playoffs....
