Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I agree..but I think he was sitting 95-96 before on the 4 seamer.. if he is getting more velo, then I would also like to see if he is also getting more spin. He is 22, so i wouldn't say he is past the time to learn command either. He is probably still a reliever in the long run which is very tradable for a guy like King or Cease.. but he is at least interesting again.. for me anyway.

I still like Waldrep and really liked the pick but he's gonna have to show a lot more than airing it out and trying to impress for an inning ST. Like Cheff said we'll know more tomorrow. I was surprised he didn't come out for a 2nd inning unless they are trying to showcase him.

Is he competing for a pen spot, maybe?

Nothing I relayed about Waldrep is a surprise. Devastating pitch that can't be touched. Problem is..he can't get to it. A straight gas FB means nothing without command.

I assume throwing out of the pen would help Waldreps control just based off pitching more often. I think he is someone that needs a month or two at AA just to get his mechanics consistent.

Well, Waldrep just got optioned, so…

I'm the only one who seems to rag about this, but why is Waldrep even on the 40-man roster? So he could start two games last year, show he's not ready, and totally sh*t the bed? Braves have had this penchant of rushing guys up into the majors and absorbing a 40-man spot, using up options, and starting the service clock too early. It's minor in the whole scheme of things and there is so much detritus on the 40-man that it isn't difficult to DFA a non-contributor to maintain flexibility, but I still think it's stupid.

Savant shows Waldrep threw 3 separate pitches. Spin rates were improved over his cup of tea in the majors last year, but nothing earth shattering. No reason to think he's anything more than a back of the rotation pitcher unless his command improves dramatically.

98?

Wonder if the Munoz kid is worth following. seems like breaking/off speed pitch could really help him.

Identical twin of former Brave minor leaguer Roddery Munoz who is with four teams since the Braves' waived him July, 2023. Had a miserable 2024 season with the Marlins: In 18 games (17 starts) 2W/7L, 1.58 WHIP, 6.53 ERA/7.19 FIP, 4.6 BB/9. Big fastball, but 4.6 BB/9 was his minor league rate as well, so control is the problem.

Rolldy's minor league stats look a lot like his brothers. Walk rate is slightly better. Hasn't pitched above AA, but he showed enough last season to get a spot on the 40-man roster. I will leave it to Deester11 to comment on how both brothers performed live. I trust that he's probably seen them pitch in-person.

Seeing they are identical twins, I always thought the Braves should have kept them both and given them the same uniform number, kept one of the guys hidden from view, and switched them on a daily basis.
