2025 Spring Training Thread

I mean this is not wrong statement. Simply put the Braves had him for 2 full seasons and he has been a competent player for 3 months. He will be useless for at least another month to start this season. This is a problem AA created. And when myself and others said this right after trade we were assured methhead was by far the best player in the trade. He might not even be the second best player in that trade.

Last year was tough (for more than just Murphy). Murphy did put up 4.9 fWAR in 108 games with a 130 wrc+.l for the 2023 season. Just seems like this should be noted in the burn-Murphy-at-the-stake thread.

And they could have traded him to get a cheap player at a position if need. Now next off-season we will have to eat salary just to get nothing for him.

No one was giving us anything for Murphy this past off-season. We would still have had to eat money regardless.

I still think Murphy rebounds. They had him in a straight platoon with TDA just like they did Contreras. Contreras wasn't getting a shot here for whatever reason so we can beat that dead horse to death. I think they let TDA go to hand Murphy the keys. He's only gonna miss a month and the good thing is that Baldwin gets a shot to show if he's ready.

Roki Sasaki threw 18 splitters with an average over 518 RPM of spin. No pitcher in the stat cast era has had such a low spin rate. Dude may be a bust if that's all the spin he can get.

A lot of people seem to have a lot of faith in players like Anderson and Murphy. The optimism of ST is wonderful.

Dude had an 87% whiff rate on his splitter last night. It has 7” of vertical break. It’s not a normal splitter either. Almost a sinker/split combo. It’s legitimately an 80 grade pitch.

Sit this one out.

I'm the first to say the trade and extension was dumb, but you really griping Murphy with Ian?! Damn. Murphy is projected anywhere from 2.7 to 3.3 fWAR

Sit this one out lol. I gave what his spin rates were. He dont play for the Braves so I don't give a $hit what happens to him.

You said he might be a bust because of the spin rate. You were clearly talking out of your ass.

And you’re the one who brought him into this thread.

I do wonder if hitters will be able to eventually pick up on the lack of spin and just spit on the 'splitter' knowing it will drop out of the zone.

now I say that never seeing him pitch.. or looking at the actual break of that pitch. Does is act like a knuckle change? those usually don't spin much at all either.

People with that low of spin rates usually don't fair well. Time will tell.

I believe this case its a lot like a knuckle ball. Knuckle balls don't spin right?

Waldrep's best pitch is a splitter than wipes out like this as well that LOW spin rate.

It could be. I just saw it on ESPN earlier and hadn't remembered seeing that low of spin rates before.
