Trump could have literally re-used the Obama deal, taken credit for it and the MAGA base would have eaten it up 100%Obama bro Vietor making the best argument I have seen so far why Iran can’t have nukes.
I’m actually rather pessimistic on the positive impacts of sanctions for peace and security, though that’s obviously not a Trump-centric gripe. The thing about authoritarian regimes is they don’t much care about their people, so I find sanctions to mostly be a punitive measure against the people already being abused by their leaders.Probably worth pointing out that Iran was DOA and not an issue until Biden opened back up the coffers and begged them for oil
Trumps sanctions had them on life support
Watch the next time North Korea does a rocket test and you’ll see the impact that sanctions have had on their military capabilities.I’m actually rather pessimistic on the positive impacts of sanctions for peace and security, though that’s obviously not a Trump-centric gripe. My issue is that it causes more social unrest and radicalism which isn’t that expensive and I’d argue is more dangerous to the average American than a direct assault from a foreign adversary.Watch the next time North Korea does a rocket test and you’ll see the impact that sanctions have had on their military capabilities.

Probably true because of the luxury of having fantastic neighbors (Canada and Mexico) and massive oceans. My issue is that it causes more social unrest and radicalism which isn’t that expensive and I’d argue is more dangerous to the average American than a direct assault from a foreign adversary.
I think the deal Trump pulled us out of was working just fine, and favor peace through cooperation.Ok
But they were working.
Just say I want my cake and eat it too
I recognize some of the gaps in my argument, but this is more of a core belief thing for me. I object morally to acts of aggression absent clear and immediate danger, and economic sanctions impact as many or more people in the countries being sanctioned as a bomb might. There’s a reason I’m not the guy who makes these decisions, but it’s ultimately a moral line for me personally.Probably true because of the luxury of having fantastic neighbors (Canada and Mexico) and massive oceans.
South Korea (or Israel or Ukraine or Taiwan… or any country in proximity with lunatic neighbors) would disagree with that assessment.
Just add “everything is Trumps fault” to your signatureI think the deal Trump pulled us out of was working just fine, and favor peace through cooperation.
