I would probably just bring up Waldrep and see if he can gain more consistency at the major league level. At least they will get to see what they may have in him.Waldrep, Richie, Jackson Stephens, Stratton, and/or Mejia = this is the group to pull from.
Hopefully we can move Snit. The real question now: what are reasonable targets for our deadline-moveable pieces.
I’m reluctant to move Murphy unless the haul is legitimate.
Ozuna is beloved in the clubhouse, and one of the club’s more consistent hitters, but seems an obvious candidate to bring some value back, and likewise open a better timeshare for Murphy/Baldwin.
I think Nick Allen is a darkhorse to be moved if a contending club needs to shore up late-inning MIF defense.
Holmes is another darkhorse, but less so. He’s cheap and controlable, for now, but not essential, so the return (like Murphy) needs to be pretty substantial.
Pretty much any reliever needs to be on the table. I’d target lower-minors hitters with high ceilings.
Maximizing the draft opportunities is another angle. Might be some tradeable Comp picks out there for relievers.Murphy needs to go if the return can bring back a legit piece for 2026. I suspect pairing him with a BP arm should get a young everyday SS or OFer.
All the other rentals need to go for whatever talent they can fetch. There is literally no point in keeping them just to make the draft position worse.
Once Ozuna is gone Acuna needs to take the majority of the DH PAs. The only goal for 2025 should be getting ready for 2026.
Is there another team that's had this many injuries to such key players over a 2 year period? Just shut Sale and SS down for the rest of the year and let them be ready for ST. I'm guessing Swellenbach was trying to over throw to make up for the lack of offense and other guys being hurt. If AA doesn't go out and another top SP in the offseason after this year he should be fired immediately and I would probably go to a 6 man rotation TBH.
We reportedly were willing to give up Murphy in a Devers trade. So regardless what happens at the deadline, I don't think Murphy will be on the 2026 squad barring a major injury to Baldwin over the next 3 months.
Murphy should absolutely be on the block and he appears to be heating up at the right time. He should be able to bring back either an MLB ready starter or a SS.
