Schwellenbach to the IL - Fractured Right Elbow

Damn Unc's guy was spot on. And yes this is the final nail. AA has every right to fall off of his we are buyers bs now with Sale and SS going down. Luckily this is a fracture of the bone which heals a lot quicker. Not sure how it even happened and that's the scariest part. Shut him and Sale down for the year and like others have said put the for sale sign out.

Blindsided again. Wow, this season sucks. I'll honestly be angry as hell if AA doesn't put a sale sign up on the GM message boards by the weekend.

On the bright side, it's a moot point now that Profar isn't eligible for the postseason this year.

And finally a big f*ck you, Jobu.

So basically the organization has destroyed the offense it locked into long term contracts and either has a voodoo curse or a training staff that has no idea what it’s doing with regards to our pitching.

Waldrep, Richie, Jackson Stephens, Stratton, and/or Mejia = this is the group to pull from.
I would probably just bring up Waldrep and see if he can gain more consistency at the major league level. At least they will get to see what they may have in him.

Why prematurely burn a 40-man roster spot with Richie? I felt the same way about Fuentes. If you think you're still in it, it makes sense to pull out all the stops, but I wonder if Sale and Schwellenbach could have gotten hurt two weeks ago if they would have brought up Fuentes. With clvclv watching from the Great Beyond, I'm probably the only poster here who thinks about that angle (and I probably think about it too much).

Don't forget Wiles. He got shelled in his only big league inning this season, but he's probably been Gwinnett's best starting pitcher and he's already on the 40-man roster. Lopez is returning as well.

The real question now: what are reasonable targets for our deadline-moveable pieces.

I’m reluctant to move Murphy unless the haul is legitimate.

Ozuna is beloved in the clubhouse, and one of the club’s more consistent hitters, but seems an obvious candidate to bring some value back, and likewise open a better timeshare for Murphy/Baldwin.

I think Nick Allen is a darkhorse to be moved if a contending club needs to shore up late-inning MIF defense.

Holmes is another darkhorse, but less so. He’s cheap and controlable, for now, but not essential, so the return (like Murphy) needs to be pretty substantial.

Pretty much any reliever needs to be on the table. I’d target lower-minors hitters with high ceilings.

Hopefully we can move Snit.

Murphy needs to go if the return can bring back a legit piece for 2026. I suspect pairing him with a BP arm should get a young everyday SS or OFer.

All the other rentals need to go for whatever talent they can fetch. There is literally no point in keeping them just to make the draft position worse.

Once Ozuna is gone Acuna needs to take the majority of the DH PAs. The only goal for 2025 should be getting ready for 2026.

Maximizing the draft opportunities is another angle. Might be some tradeable Comp picks out there for relievers.

And thats the nail in the coffin. On the bright side theres no chance we buy and a medium chance they sell. The bad part is Sale, Schwelly, and Lopez shouldnt throw another pitch this year but we all know they will rush them back to try to get a few meaningless starts.

Is there another team that's had this many injuries to such key players over a 2 year period? Just shut Sale and SS down for the rest of the year and let them be ready for ST. I'm guessing Swellenbach was trying to over throw to make up for the lack of offense and other guys being hurt. If AA doesn't go out and another top SP in the offseason after this year he should be fired immediately and I would probably go to a 6 man rotation TBH.

We need to get 2 SP so we can go into the year with Reynaldo and Holmes as the 6th and 7th SP. Best case scenario everyone is healthy they go to the pen where we know they can be elite. I dont think we need top tier SP. 2 mid range SP like Suarez and Bassitt. We still need money to add someone like Bichette.

If they wanna make a run at it, go get Bailey falter and David bednar from the pirates. Falter would be perfect to throw between the 2 SSs next season.

Sale
SS
Falter
SS
Lopez/holmes/fuentes/elder

That's a good rotation for next season

Here's where I'm at. We don't need to rebuild. We are fucking cursed. Put bubble wrap on Acuna and Strider, let Sale come back slowly. Start resting Riley more often.

Looking at impending free agents, you put Ozuna and Iglesias on the block.

We reportedly were willing to give up Murphy in a Devers trade. So regardless what happens at the deadline, I don't think Murphy will be on the 2026 squad barring a major injury to Baldwin over the next 3 months.

Murphy should absolutely be on the block and he appears to be heating up at the right time. He should be able to bring back either an MLB ready starter or a SS.

If Schwelly has avoided a major injury, then our rotation should be largely determined for next year. Sales, SS squared, Lopez, and Holmes (assuming he isn't traded). Maybe we decide to go after another starter, but I doubt it's gonna be an ace type of pitcher.

Fixing SS should be the primary focus. And hopefully Harris remembers how to hit and Ozzie regains strength.

If Baldwin and Murphy were traditional splits hitter there might be reason to keep both but we cant pay a backup catcher 15 million a year and Baldwin is much better. The focus needs to be getting atleast average production from each position.
