Minor League Thread Part Deux

Hartman, Gil, and Miller continuing to kill it. Through 7 innings:

Hartman 3-4 with another SB and an RBI
Gil 2-3 with a double, 3 RBIs, and a BB
Miller 2-3 with a BB and an RBI

Miller gonna be the big surprise of the draft this year.

The trio to watch is in Augusta...
Hartman 3-4, .761 ops
Gil 2-3, bb, 2 2b, .714 ops
Miller 2-3, bb, .926 ops

Hartman and gil have really, really came on. Miller is still very early in his pro career, but cautiously excited

Hartman also has 40 steals this year. He's been crushing it for awhile now. He should be getting a lot more love than what he is getting.

Sale 4 IP today. If we sweep the White Sox Sale needs to take Feddes place in the rotation. May w have him start vs the Mets in place of Elder. They could move everyone up a day and Sale could get an extra days rest or two.

I know it’s hard to embrace, but I don’t think the Braves should be trying to optimize anything except (a) Drake Baldwin’s ROY candidacy, (b) losses (for better draft position), (c) health of longterm established big-leaguers, and (d) reps for potential 2026 big-league contributors who aren’t yet established (Waldrep, Alvarez, Ritchie). Strategizing for 2025 MLB wins is folly.

It is. But they also shouldn’t be trying to lose.

you don't have to try to lose.. but you can make it harder to win by not playing the best players all the time in a lost season.. Acuna playing every game is stupid.. letting Strider go more than 5 innings is stupid..letting Ozuna play everyday is stupid.. There should be a few Gwinnett players up for guys like Williams and other scrubs that won't be here next year and those guys should be given time to play.

So…try to lose.

I agree with protecting the health of their best players with injury issues and seeing what they have with some prospects at positions that aren’t set in stone, but otherwise not putting the best team on the field is certified tanking and no team should be doing that.

My reaction to winning games at this point is, to a large extent, about how we win them. If we win a game because Elder throws a respectable start, Ozuna knocks in a few runs and Allen chips in a couple timely hits, I can’t enjoy that too much — it’s guys without a future here doing their jobs and playing out the string like professionals. Admirable, but not really relevant to the future of the club.

But if we win games because Waldrep kicks ass and Harris and Acuna have big performances, that’s a different thing. That I like to see, draft spot notwithstanding.
