GDT 8-18: White Sox at Braves

I know this will not be a popular opinion, but I am going to say it anyway.

I think this season will turn out to be a huge wake-up call for the team, the FO and the individual players. They will be embarrassed, and come back in ST with a new resolve.

They will be in better shape because they will take the offseason more seriously, there will be a new manager, new coaches, and AA will not be encumbered by the Tax threshold, so he will have greater opportunity to improve the team.

I am optimistic that these guys are better than this, and they know it.
I disagree.

The ownership stays status quo and will continue to direct the FO to shop at the bargain isle.

The gimmick is the battery and ticket sales...Winning is priority 2....They DO NOT pay players...

Braves have a high payroll...

Can you name 1 guy that's had successful brace procedure? As in came back just as good. I'm really interested
I mean there's only been a few procedures done at the major league level to gauge. But Drew Rasmussen is a success story with this procedure. Of course, the Rays used him a not in the pen last year after he came back. We probably should have chose that option.

Good, I wanna hear successes bc I'm panicking big time on strider

Like AA I'll give him the offseason to see if he can regain anything that he's lost. I doubt the velo is ever back to what it was but the reality is that right now it's his command that's killing him. The good news is that it looks like his slider and now the curve are still swing and miss pitches. Strider is the only starter in baseball to have a 50% whiff rate on 2 different pitches which is something to be positive about.

Profar had five RBIs and every batter on the team had at least one hit - except for Drake.
Go start another streak tomorrow- I think we win the next eight in a row.

9 runs shoulda’ been enough…..

It sucks to watch, but nothing of what Strider does the rest of the season matters all that much. He needs a dedicated off-season to build back to full strength and get rid of whatever is still ailing him. If he's still sitting at 95mph next April, then we have a problem.

Can Snit go ahead and announce his retirement? Every day that passes makes me think he'll want and get that elusive 50th year in the organization.

We certainly don't need his dumbassery ruining another year with our closing window.

.826 ops vs .839 last year
132 wrc+ vs 139 last year
.211 iso vs .179 last year

Maybe it wasn't all PEDs

His expected stats are a good bit worse however. I feel like he's probably playing a bit over his head. But I do think if everything stays the same, we should expect an OPS in the .750-800 OPS range. As long as he maintains that, he will be useful.

I will say, the elite BB rate isn't something I expected to see. He would be top 20 if he had enough PAs to qualify.

No I think Strider is done just simply because it doesn't look as if he is open to adjusting his pitching style.
He's already been adjusting his pitching style. He's throwing a curve now, that he never threw before the injury, at least not with any regularity. And it's playing up very well. He has also improved his change a good bit as well.

Strider is struggling with command at the moment, as pitchers coming back from a major arm injury tend to do. That is the main issue we're seeing with him. That combined with the decreased effectiveness of his once elite FB produces the results we've been seeing over the last 5 starts.

On profar, his barrel rate was at career high last season, and it's up even more this season. This seems like something that PEDs wouldn't really help, right? Just hand eye, correct?

Profar seems like a good teammate too. Hes always smiling and cutting up with his teammates. He isn't great defensively but his bat hasn't been awful. Get another really good OF'er in the offseason and rotate all 4 of them to keep them healthy.
