Minor League Thread Part Deux

That was Dustin Peterson that got banged up in the bus crash. Maybe Davidson was on board the same bus and maybe he did miss some time (too lazy to look it up), but I know Peterson was out for a couple of weeks and he really wasn't the same player after that.

As for Southisine, his hands look awfully low in his batting stance. That may work against high school pitchers, but it's difficult to catch up with high strikes with your hands that low.
Yep. I knew that nagging voice in my head wasn’t the crazy trying to come out. Thanks 50 for the correction.

I guess I misspoke about Braxton a little bit... he was drafted and had quite a bit of power hitter hype around him and there was a lot of optimism but he never could figure it out and was striking out well over 30% of the time by the end of his career... and over 40% his last year. I think his best year was in low A ball with the wRC+ of 117. He knew how to take a walk and hit a long ball at times, but he never really became a legit prospect.
No. You're spot on. I remember the joy his dad had because I was the first one to record his first homerun. I asked his dad at the time what braxton wanted to be. He said the Braves pay for power...but he wanted to be a complete hitter. As I watched him, I saw him perplexed about a strike down the middle or a ball 2 feet off the plate. I honestly never thought he'd put it together but I was intrigued. Eh...

He's the reason I stopped recording and made notes. They serve me better to this day.

Is there a reason Hayden Harris can't get a shot in the majors. I don't really care if he maxes out a 87 mph. He has a .64 ERA across 2 levels this year and has elite K rates. There is something more than smoke and mirrors with him.

Probably a 40 man roster decision right now.

If I'm correct, most of his strikeouts came in 0-2, 1-2 counts. He was ahead in the count where he could unleash the splitter. This is not new. His command is still not good and were it even passable, he'd be a viable starter. He's not garbage. He is what he is. As a reliever, he may project better.
The rest of his repertoire is very mediocre though.

The 4 seamer has plus velocity, but mediocre movement. However it could play up well if he could actually locate it. But he can't. The Slider and Curve are below average, though the curve seems to have improved.

He's still a future reliever in my book and they need to stop pretending like he can be a starter.
I remember AJSS getting lit up a lot and people were calling him a bust a lot and then he figured it out this year and could have been a ROY candidate. Some guys just take longer to learn and figure things out. We know Waldrep has the great splitter so if he can refine a few other things he can help the team out.
Waldrep with an absolutely disgusting 751 spin rate on his splitter last night. 60% whiff rate.

But yeah, it's totally dumb to call it a "deadly" pitch, @Enscheff

LMAO.
Nice night for Waldrep. That's a couple of good ones in a row. Given the revolving door at the back of the rotation (and what they have invested in him), he should be given the opportunity to see what he can do.
I hope the reason they’ve kept him down all season is genuinely developmental, and not—as some have argued—because he’s irredeemable. Need to see a lot more outings like these to close 2025, though, and maybe he’s another legitimate option for 2026.

Just highlighting the thoughts on Waldrep before his callup.

Really would like to see what Bastidas could do in the pros the last month of the year. The old Cardinals and Dodgers could squeeze production out of older minor leaguers who made it to the majors, so it'd be cool to see if the Braves could do that with one player.

I would like to see him too. Between him and Fraley we could actually have the makings of a respectable bench next year

He was really thrown into the deepend, given the level of competition he’s faced heretofore in his life. Will be interesting to see how he responds over the final games of 2025 and into 2026.
Yeah he's probably to high in the system for a HS kid.

I remember when Harris was first drafted they initially tried him in A ball from HS and it wasn’t pretty. We will see how he does next year.
