2025-2026 offseason thread

The Rays are in the middle of a sale arent they? New owners generally want as little money on the books as possible. I do wonder if this was at the direction of the new owners. Some people have speculated the new owners might up spending but its probably the opposite. They will want to recoup some of that money they used to buy the team.
Can we work up a trade for Cash?

I'd rather have Willy Castro as a utility guy. He actually has some pop and plays SS, 2b, and OF. Allen is good if he's playing just a few times here and there but you can't have his bat in there for a long period of time.

I agree but Castro has a 5 RC since being traded. That really worries me. Unless it only takes a 1 year deal I want to see him produce some results with the Cubs. Really worried he gets a 3 year deal and tanks exactly like he has done with the Cubs.

I doubt he gets a 3 yr deal. Probably something like 2 for 15, maybe a 3rd year option.

Even still, there are several similar players to Castro in FA. Miguel Rojas, Isaiah Kinfer-Falefa, Kyle Farmer, Amed Rosario, Dylan Moore, and even Jose Iglesias is you feel like he has something is left. Any of these guys would be good pickups for the bench in 2026, if they are willing to accept a super sub sort of role. But I imagine at least a couple of these guys will try to find full time gig somewhere.

Get hyped for the Walter William Weiss Era!

Per MLBTR, a lot of decent talent expected to be posted this offseason. Hopefully the Kim pick-up is a canary in the coal mine, and the Braves are ready to take the East Asian market seriously. I was a huge advocate of signing Imanaga, and that looks like it was a big miss, in retrospect. A couple very solid SP options will be posted this offseason from the NPB; some bat options, too, but the Braves would need to sell them on a move to cOF/DH.

Also need Kim to pick up that option (or otherwise extent). Based on his public comments, the players have at least done their part to make him feel very welcome on the team.

I have to wonder if Cease will go for a 1 year deal. This isnt the kind of year to cash in on. I bet Borass would want something similar to how the Bellinger contract was structured.

The 2026 team feels like its coming together with Waldrep earning a rotation spot and acquiring Kim. If we could turn injuries off I think we have a championship roster and they should still have 60+ million to spend before hitting the luxury cap. They need to add some position versatile quality bench players. 2 that come to mind Harrison Bader who can play plus defense in all 3 OF positions and Miguel Andujar who can play 1B/3B/LF/RF.

I'd be good with those 2 guys. Cease is probably the best SP on the market coming up and Boras is gonna wanna cash in even with Cease having a down year. I'm sure most of the SP are gonna get a QO but one of Cease, Woodruff, King need to be signed.

What I like about Bader and Andujar is that they kept hitting after being traded. If we could upgrade from Fraley to Kwan and run out an elite OF defense I would be so happy.

Cease is no better than the 3rd best SP this FA period. 2 of the last 3 years he has had an ERA over 4.50. ERA isn't the greatest judge obviously, but it's certainly a red flag going into FA. Maybe if he has dominant post-season run teams might overlook his mediocre season. But he certainly looks more like a 3ish WAR pitcher than the 6 WAR pitcher he was in 2022.

Either Valdez or Suarez is going to get the biggest contract this off-season. Suarez is younger but Valdez has been the better pitcher over their career.

After that, Cease falls into the next group of guys who will get a large AAV contract but on shorter deals. Guys like Peralta, Woodruf, King, and Bieber (if he opts out, which isn't likely right now). At least 1 of these guys will likely be forced to take a pillow deal to rebuild value.
