GDT 9-15: Braves in DC

His bigger concern may be the defense. His offense is creeping back to pre-injury. He was never a good hitter, just an avg hitter with a good glove at SS. In a SSS, his defense is negative now.
The offense is also a concern. He was never a great hitter and he's been even worse than that overall (better with Atl, but still much worse than his career overall).

I do think there is plenty enough reason for potential suitors to think he can bounce back to the 3-4 fWAR SS he was before the injury. But I also don't see anyone paying a premium to take that risk, even in a market devoid of quality SS options.

I honestly don't think the offense is that much of a concern. He played all of 24 games in Tampa with poor results. That's nothing....

A good finish to the season and his overall numbers on the year will be in line with his career numbers.

The only real concern imo is him staying healthy.

I'm just speaking objectively. He would have some interest around the league should he opt out. But there are enough red flags that no one is going to pay a premium for his services.

If Story doesn't opt out he'll have 2 years at 25 per with a club option after that. He's had a pretty good year and would be a short term commitment till our guys are ready. We could probably get Boston to eat some of the money.

Theres also a 5 mill buyout for his last option year so it would probably come out to 2 years 55 million. Theres been speculation he could opt out and get more money in FA.

One where Bichette is no longer a good enough defender to play SS. He can do it for another 2 years because of his bat but he will be a 2B by age 30.

Bichette is gonna post a 4 fWAR season. He's a roughly average defender. No one in the right mind is valuing Kim more than Bichette in actual dollars.

Kim could be had for a cheaper, shorter contract. Bichette will require a huge contract.

That would be a huge risk on his part. He's another guy whose defense carries him. And he'll be 33 in 2 months. I find it unlikely someone gives him better than the 3/75 he has left.

Again, this is about SS. Bichette would probably get more money to play pitcher than Kim will but its irrelevant to the SS market if he will be signed to play a different position.

If the Braves can limit Sale to around 75-80 pitches tonight, then there is a good shot at the team dropping both games of the DH today.. be huge for the tankathon ranks.

If you think someone is signing Bichette to be anything other than SS, I think you are fooling yourself. Especially in a market devoid of SS options. What plans that team may have for him down the road are sort of irrelevant for this off-season.
