Braves claim Manoah off waivers from Blue Jays.

His FIP is terrible and HR/9 is a little high, but his WHIP and everything else is pretty good. I’m intrigued but I don’t know much about him.

EDIT: Shit, I was looking at last year’s stats. Didn’t realize he missed all of this season with an injury.

Certainly worth a gamble. He was one of the best pitchers in the AL in 21 and 22, and then mysteriously lost it in 23. Came back okay in early 24 but seems to have gotten injured, and didnt appear again until July of this year. Did okay in AAA before getting released. At 2 mil you can make that gamble as long as youre not counting on him.

I like it. The Braves are pretty good at fixing pitchers and Manoah use to be really good. Maybe they see something they think they can fix. Could be a good depth piece or reliever.

We werent skeptical of his health we were skeptical about performance.
who was.. dude was a very good reliever. It wasn't like the Braves were getting some scrap heap, waiver wire claim.. it was always about if he could handle the extra innings and prolonged outings. He couldn't and now his career might be over because the geniuses running this org thought is was a great idea to have a pitcher go from 60 innings per for the prior 3 years to 130+...

But you somehow equated the Lopez situation to this.. Manoah is dog crap on a pile of horse crap.. is it worth a gamble.. sure, who cares.. Lopez was a viable pitcher that should have spot started and moved to the pen around 60-70 innings.. Manoah is Manewer

Yeah some were optimistic he could be a backend starter swingman type. Dont make me bump the thread.
I would think we were all hopeful he could be. Again he was a quality pitcher. But I would imagine there was concerns over work load. I wanna say even through the season folks were worried about the innings he was accumulating.

That said I hope no one is thinking monuer is a fix for anything. He is a shot in the dark that has a very very low probability of working.

I like it. He was good, then he sucked before going out with an injury. He hasn’t been back long enough to work the rust out. We’re all familiar with that routine by now. 2 million for a good possibility of a rebound and a couple of years of control seems like a bargain to me.

It’s depth with upside. Not sure how anyone can be mad. The team still needs to add an impact starter in the offseason.
