Very Flirtatious, but Doubts What Love Is.
There are legitimate concerns I have with bringing Chipper into the role; but the main “approach” concerns are the same I have with Hyers, and the former already seems like better than the latter at translating his instructions into results for players, in the limited data we have.

It seems like every time one of our hitters go into a slump Chipper is credited for helping them get out of it. He won't be perfect bc nobody is but there's nobody else I'd trust in the role more than Larry.

Bob Melvin address his future. Found this part interesting.
There’s a number of vacancies all around baseball (including attractive jobs in places like Atlanta and Baltimore), and a three-time Manager of the Year with 1678 wins under his belt seems certain to be an attractive potential candidate to any club hoping to find an experienced voice in the dugout. Another stateside gig may not be his preferred destination, however, as Melvin told Rubin that he’s “always wanted to manage in Japan.” Having managed Japanese superstars like Ichiro Suzuki and Yu Darvish during his career, Melvin went on to note that he “really enjoys the style of baseball they play” in Nippon Professional Baseball.

Lombard is definitely interesting. I think AA is gonna want his guy and not somebody currently in the system. Lombard is probably a top 5 candidate right now with Schumaker out.

If true it’s already mistake #1 of the offseason, and means they never had a chance at Schumaker because they forgot to send him a text.

I'm very confident that AA has known for a while - at least in his head - what his short list of potential managerial candidates would be. This is a guy who has openly said he's thought and planned more than a year in advance on certain players (i.e. Sale). I see no reason why he wouldn't take the same approach with managers/potential managers. It was likely well understood among front offices that Texas was going to replace Bochy with Schumaker at some point.

Guy at MLBTR is predicting Gibbons due to his Jays/AA connection. He's managed the Jays twice, never won much of anything, took several years off after being fired, and has spent 2 seasons as the Mets bench coach where he's learned...let me check my notes...how to underperform with a huge payroll.
