2025-2026 offseason thread

Yeah there are degrees to this. If the choice ends up being Ranger for 3/60 vs giving Elder a 30 starts, it’s worth giving up the pick. If the choice is Ranger for 5/120 vs Bassitt on a 3 year deal, it’s not worth giving up the pick.

Then there’s the whole range of possibilities in between. Based on what SPs are projected to get, I’m in favor of keeping the pick and getting a lesser SP.
But wouldn't it be best to just spend a little more than you're comfortable with on Bassit, and keep the pick?

Come playoff time, you want Suarez or Bassitt on the bump?

Come playoff time I want Sale, Schwelly and a resurgent Strider on the mound. Or a BP game with Lopez going 3-4 innings, followed by a competently deployed BP.

Bassitt’s value comes from getting the Braves to the playoffs.
Exactly. Use guys like him to eat innings in the regular season then ride your big 3 in the post season.

I don’t disagree, but one of them is gonna likely have to start a game or two.

I’m just posturing if the top end is worth the pain paid. It’s likely not.

But once the playoffs get here, and you need one, and would rather have the other the conversation becomes interesting

A soft tossing lefty getting 6 years at over 20+ per while losing the draft pick and bonus money? Super hard pass.
He may get that, but most of the projections are pretty soft on what he gets.

ESPN has him getting 4/90 for what it's worth.

I just think you are irrationally overvaluing the draft pick.

Don't like the options then fine, but if you think one pick is going to be a franchise altering thing, you're going to be disappointed.

In terms of value just one pick being the next Freeman or McCann is ridiculously more valuable than any FA we can get. Even if the players chosen don't end up as good players they could also be used for trades to provide value to us even if they bust. And its not like it's Suarez or nothing. We can still sign a decent SP. If they wanna spend money make a run at Skubal next year.

That’s a straw man. Nobody thinks the 26th pick is going to alter the franchise. Just like nobody thinks signing Ranger over Bassitt is going to alter the franchise.

WM started today so we should see a lot of action over the next 2-3 days.

It’ll be fun to be a Braves fan on the sideline watching every other team get better except ours. Seems like AA doesn’t do anything at winter meetings. Usually done in November or just before spring training

Literally someone earlier said it was an opportunity to change the face of the franchise or something like that.

Braves claim RHP Anthony Molina from the Rockies on waivers and RHP Osvaldo Bido from the Athletics on waivers. Braves then DFA LHP Josh Walker. Roster is now at 40.
