2025-2026 offseason thread

“Mr. Anthopolous, my client would be very interested in joining the Braves.”

“How much?”

“23 million”

“How many years?”

“3”

“I like what we’re saying. Let’s get him in here for a physical.”

“Just to be clear, that’s 23 million per year over 3.”

Beat me to it…

Diaz’s interest in the Braves lasted as long as it took his agent to call AA and get an offer

So either the reports of the Braves shopping in the $15-20m reliever aisle are fake, or AA is looking to spend that much on a second closer type of pitcher. That would be a weird thing to do if payroll is tight.

I mean, it's been reported by a legit Dodgers reporter, Heyman and Feinsand. So it's definitely real. And it'll take at least $15-20M to sign Robert Suarez for multiple years

Eh Suarez is a definite a tier below Williams and Diaz. He'll be 35 to start next year, and while he's been very good overall, he doesn't K a ton of guys and his home away splits are worrisome.

I would be a bit surprised if he got more than 3/40.

Yeah, Suarez would definitely help us, but I worry that the market will overvalue his skills (the two points you make resonate with me). Since we already have Iglesias in the fold, I think we'd be best served not overbidding for a "proven closer" and the premium that goes along with that.

There are many good options out there below the "closer" tier, and I'll put Luke Weaver out there as just one example. Really strong numbers as a RP with NYY the past couple years in a really tough place to pitch. Acquisition cost would be WAY lower than Suarez . . . maybe half as much.
