2025-2026 offseason thread

what would you give if the Stankees came to you and said we want to trade you Geritt Cole? TJS last year.. 3 years left at ~35 per.. looking at a 5-7 war pitcher when healthy..

negative in the sense that he adds no value.. He would be added as a payroll trade off.
I have no idea what that means.

If AA put him on the market he’d get at minimum a 40FV prospect. That means he has value, and that his value is not negative. Negative value would mean he’d need a prospect attached to simply dump his contract.

Murph has negative trade value.. horrible 2025 and was injured to finish the year.. no one is giving any value for Murph at this point.
Except someone who desperately needs a catcher, believes he will be healthy, and is willing to take a chance.

I think the other C options available may make that a chance worth taking for a team like Texas.

I don't wanna trade Murphy, but we talking about the rangers, right? They dished out big contracts to seager and Degrom, so they obviously don't stress on injuries too much

Is there a scenario in which the Braves could get Seager AND Degrom from the Rangers? What should/would it take?

pretty simple really..

lets say Texas and the Braves are in agreeance to trade Seager for Ritchie and one of the newly drafted SS.. but the Braves say, wait, we need to include MethHead to afford Seager. the Braves are not going to get another prospect for that.. so he didn't add any value to the trade other than salary relief for the Braves.. maybe negative is too hard a word for you.. but he still doesn't add to the deal....

Don’t think you could reasonably expect him to be any good this season coming off TJ. So you’re looking at $105m for 2, maybe 2.5 years. $42-$52m a year. No thanks.

I think Texas would be ecstatic to get Murphy for a 40FV prospect. Tons of teams would run to do that.

I think I'm content to wait for free agency to conclude before assigning a grade.

So far at a minimum they have upgraded SS slightly (or the middle infield bench significantly) and upgraded the 4th OF by a lot.

Probably they have have upgraded the bullpen.

If they added a SS and a #3 SP they'd have done real well.

Since SP was the primary thing they said they needed to address, I suspect they will do something there.

I think they're likely to touch SS again somehow.

I think maybe 1 more significant reliever is possible.

You could be correct if the Rangers didn’t have a major need for a C in a very thin market for Catchers.

Scarcity matters.
