The 49ers are why I reject the excuse some try to give for the Falcons failure this year. Some want to let Morris off the hook because the team has dealt with injuries, including an injury to the QB. We'll look at San Francisco, a competently coached team. They were able to adapt and overcome.

Meanwhile Morris' best talent as a head coach is chewing gum.

And looking at the Jumbotron.

Shanahan is clearly one of the best coaches in the NFL. He knows how to adapt his playbook offensively for injuries. When they didn't have Purdy he made Mac Jones look like a competent QB by playing to his strengths. Our OC can't even use our first round draft picks's best strengths and won't coach them up.

Of course you can't always overcome everything. See them last year.

Owner Arthur Blank’s group has brought the consulting firm Sportology, with whom they’ve partnered with for a while, in to work with them on the Falcons, as well as the MLS’ Atlanta United and the new NWSL expansion team he was awarded (they’ve worked with Blank on building the NWSL club for a little while). For the Falcons’ specifically, it’s an overall health check on the team’s operations. And it’s not been a secret within the walls of the football facility that the evaluation is ongoing.

Time will tell what this means for GM Terry Fontenot and coach Raheem Morris, but there’s plenty of buzz that some level of change is coming, with the team at 6–9, assured of its eighth consecutive season under .500 and home for the playoffs.

Mike Forde, a former executive for the Premier League’s Chelsea F.C., is Sportlogy’s founder, and former Texans GM Rick Smith is among the firm’s partners.

The optimist in me says maybe this mean McKay is finally fired, and we can finally put that chapter past us.

The pragmatist in me says the firm is going to say everything is fine and we keep Terry and Raheem and Rich for another year at least.
