2025-2026 offseason thread

Wow I expected much more of that Tucker deal to be deferred. That has to have the lowest potential ceiling of any FA signing I can recall.

It really is hard to fathom. I suppose unlimited money changes the calculus of what makes a good deal.
I’ve been saying this for three years now. Comparing the Braves, who are at least a well-run team that has to be disciplined with its resources, to the Dodgers is completely misguided. They are not operating in remotely the same reality.

What frustrates me is when the Braves sign someone like Yaz, and then the Dodgers, who have no real need for him, go out and sign Tucker anyway. That isn’t smart roster construction - it’s just financial dominance. It's frustrating as hell

Tucker is overrated. I like him but he misses a lot of time. All this does is raise the price on similar players when they hit FA. The Dodgers have no doubt put a huge dent in MLB. The whole 27 season needs to be set out if it means fixing the system. Bellinger and Bichette price just went up I'm guessing.

In the end, the Braves have a strong roster, and if they reach the postseason it’s an any-given-day mentality. However, Atlanta HAS to add a frontline starter. There’s no realistic path to competing with the Dodgers without an elite arm to complement Sale and Schwellenbach.

People are going to pretend during the season their team has a chance? This is nonsense. Glad I stopped really watching the last couple of years.

Do I care LAD signed another star ? No.

Is it because they signed a lot of players with like a BILLION dollars in deferrals ? Most likely yes. Is that ok? No.

Does it suck more bc deep down id have loved Tucker in Atl and he was a good fit ?

Yep

Just a reminder that Yaz and Dubon combined for 4.6 WAR last year and are making a fraction of what Tucker is making and are essentially going to have the same role that Tucker would be doing here.
That’s very cute and would be really awesome if $ per WAR meant anything in 2026

Honestly I doubt small market teams mind. A deal like this just added something like $60m to the revenue pool that they divvy up. What a league.

The Jays are a better team than us, but they just took the Dodgers seven games lol and statistically, the Dodgers got legitimately lucky to win that series. There's just so much uncertainty in baseball. Los Angeles is clearly the best team, and it's not that close; but competitive sports are a different animal in October. Just enjoy the season and see where it goes.

Still waiting for a link to a job rec you have the authority to fill boss man.

You’ll never be able to provide one because you’re a nothing, saggy tits. All this deflection from you to avoid admitting it.
Sorry little fella but anything I see that matches a poker engineer skillset can be done by the intern or Claude, so no need.

Also anyone dumb enough to fall for JIM CROW is too stupid to work for me

FG on the Tucker deal:
particularly since the Díaz and Tucker signings carry additional costs. Given that the Dodgers are well over the tax threshold, signing Díaz — to whom the Mets issued a qualifying offer — already meant they would forfeit their second- and fifth-highest draft picks, as well as $1 million from their international bonus pool as a penalty. For signing Tucker, they’ll lose their third- and sixth-highest picks as well.

That’s 13.0 WAR over the four-year span, a projection for which ZiPS suggests a $149 million contract. So yes, this appears to be a substantial overpay even before factoring in the additional taxes this will cost the Dodgers — which should tell you that for as quiet as they’ve been in their pursuit, they really wanted him.

The Tucker fixation is baffling to me honestly. Granted, I'm sure he'll go on age like Dwight Evans now that he's on the Dodgers. But that's a ton of money for a non elite player.
