Does the signing bonus treat the luxery tax differently than the average salary?
I'm in the Bassitt camp also. Short term, eats innings, and shouldn't be to crazy. Are you that high on Bassitt? Or just see the need and believe he fits that fairly well given he will only cost money?
These loop holes need to be done away with in the next CBA.Does the signing bonus treat the luxery tax differently than the average salary?
So deferrals and signing bonuses dont count toward the luxury? These loop holes need to be done away with in the next CBA.
I'd guess so. The Dodgers are probably the only team in baseball that could afford a signing bonus like that. Their tv deal is structured where MLB can't touch most of it either. The playing field isn't even at all.So deferrals and signing bonuses dont count toward the luxury?
I get why players wouldnt sign up for deferrals but why aren't teams abusing signing bonuses? Cash flow that tight?
They make the most sense to overpay for Peralta. If we trade I'd rather over pay for Joe Ryan.
Would you defer your salary for several years? Why doesn't everyone do the deferrals?
That's why my top guy would be Bassitt. We get to keep all of our prospects and keep the farm building this year. I wanna keep the depth we have with Murphy bc even signing Bassitt one or two of the others will go down at some point this year.Okay, I know some of you will blast me for this, but here goes. I believe that we are underestimating the young pitchers in the organization.
I think we will see that out of Waldrep, Ritchie, Murphy, Fuentes, and a few under the radar signings, we are going to come up with a couple of solid pitchers who will contribute this season.
I agree that we would be more comfortable with another veteran, but I don’t think it’s a total mess as some have suggested.
I wouldn't do it. You're losing a lot from investing it and interest.Would you defer your salary for several years?
Its not a good deal for the player.
Mets have the cash to give him a handsome extension. I’m sure Stearns has to be working on this as we speak.Quite a nice haul for 1 year of Freddy
Then it’s quite a haul for 1 year of Freddy (for the Brewers) and quite a haul to have the right to pay Freddy Peralta market rate (for the Mets)Mets have the cash to give him a handsome extension. I’m sure Stearns has to be working on this as we speak.
