2025-2026 offseason thread

Murphy will be out until May at the very least. He totally would get 3/45 guaranteed as a FA right now though. Teams love handing out deals like that to oft injured catchers coming off hip surgeries that are going to miss half the current season....

JTR just got 3/$45. Yeah Murphy is hurt. He’s still a lot better than JTR.

Braves have to get another bat.
I think so too. They were gonna use Murphy and Baldwin a lot at DH this year and that won't happen for half the season and by that time we could be in trouble with our luck of injuries lately. I know Ozuna is still out there but he could definitely help at this point. He just has to know that when Murphy gets back his AB's will be more limited.

They essentially lost their platoon partner for Yaz when Kim got hurt. That's the RHH bat they need to replace, though I can see the reasoning behind letting White be the short side of the LF platoon for 2 months if money is tight.

An actual healthy MLB SP is more important.

ZiPS just released their projected standings for 2026

They have the Braves at 86-76 and a Wild Card team

They see the playoffs as:

Dodgers
Phillies
Cubs
Mets
Braves
Brewers

I think getting Dubon and Yaz created the depth to weather the storm of losing guys like Murphy and Kim for a few months. They are still not deep enough to lose guys like that for the season. Of course we would like to be even deeper, but we need to acknowledge that the depth we have is much improved from last year.

Not trading Murphy at the deadline was a massive blunder. Several people here said so at the time.
Yup.

Murphy may or may not be worth $45m on the open market. But if he were on the open market market, the Braves would not spend $45m to acquire him given the needs of the rest of the roster and the presence of Drake.

Murphy had a tear in his hip at the break last year. He couldn't have been traded bc he wouldn't have passed a physical
He says he had it for 4 years. Seems like he passed our physical just fine.

I think for a team to have found this out, they would have needed to take an MRI, unless we/Murphy already knew about it and it was already a part of his medical history. While I can't say for certain, I would be willing to bet an MRI of someone's hip is not a standard part of physical in mid-season trade.
