2025-2026 offseason thread

There’s just no pleasing some people.
I laughed.

Obviously the AAAA SP isnt going to make anyone feel any better about anything. Nor would adding a fifth starter make anyone thing that AA injury sufficiently planned for lots of sp injuries.

So essentially it builds down to folks being upset that Atlanta isn’t edging up to or going over the pick loss cap line before we are out of spring training.

Atlanta chose to have a very fixed roster near the limits of their payroll and there have been lots of injuries.

The dodgers can try to spend their way out of that, the braves cannot.

I think AA doesn't want to overpay in prospects and also doesn't want to overpay in dollars. While it's commendable, he had a clear opportunity to improve the club last July and didn't take it.
He doesn’t want to pay prospects for players and he doesn’t want to pay cash for players. He also doesn’t want to trade aging players away (Ozuna) when he wasn’t doing us any good and wasn’t being retained the following season. I find it very hard to understand what he’s actually doing.

I'm a huge AA fan but yeah, i dont really understand the plan either. Unless he thinks Schwelly is returning much sooner or later, which by the injury i have doubts.

Buehler is hot garbage at this point my guy. Rather have Martin Perez.
Are you serious Clark

Both suck but walker at least was good once. Perez is some and mirrors and we will enjoy all his starts. And why not both. It is a minor league deal.

Now I could also see him wanting to be west coast again so no need for anyone to be bummed about this.

Buehler has pitched 200 innings the last 2 seasons combined to the tune of -0.4 fWAR; he was negative both seasons, so it wasn't one pulling down the other. Perez in 56 innings last season was 0.8. That's a pretty big difference. For all the crap elder catches here, he's never had a negative fWAR season, and Walker in a 2 year streak

It’s fairly known that Ozuna vetoed a trade

Now Murphy- yeah I’d have dumped him

Talking small sample with Peréz who hasn’t been good ever. Junk baller who pitched close to a 5 xfip. He sucks. Walker sucks too. But he at least was good once and is coming back from major surgery. Neither really excite me, but I take potential over junk ball luck everyday.

As far as elder. You will get plenty of him this year. Might lead the team in innings again.

You think a sample of buehler before he got hurt is relevant?

I am not saying walker is good. I am saying he at least sniffed being good.

Also. Not a huge fan of run value. Walker could give up a first pitch bloop with bases loaded that scores 2 runs while Perez gives up a 8 pitch rocket to right that gives up 2 runs yet he would see better run value because of the non hit pitches. Doesn’t mean he is better.

Carp said he'd rather have Perez than Walker THIS season, and I agree. What you wanna bet on fWAR this season?

Perez is a better pitcher now by every measure. Neither one is good, but Perez has at least established himself as a solid No. 5 starter.

Buehler needs to completely reinvent himself if he's going to be a major league pitcher. He's got an ERA and a FIP over 5 in the two years since returning from injury, with a K rate of 7.0 and a BB rate of 4.0.
