DOGE

Commissaries are grocery stores for our military members and their families, they're quite fascinating.

They're subsidized and ran by the federal government.

Watch this video

We expect our service members to buy groceries and give them a break. I can again virtually guarantee these luxury items aren't going to the average service member outside of when they're at a dinner with a VIP guest like Hegseth, Trump, etc.
Got it - I’m glad you know what it is.

Now I’m asking why that’s relevant

Zito bangs on Trump for liking McDonalds and for serving our military good food.

Fucking wild man. Shows you can’t win with these losers

Because our actual soldiers are expected to buy food all the time.

My BiL who was a marine had to constantly do that. Mess hall or commissary or go off base and be a civilian. those were th eoptions. mess halls aren't stocking ribeye all the time. I can promise you that. So eat what we give you, buy what we are buying in at a sale, or go off base.

Left wants to pay soliders crap and make them buy/cook their own food.

Meanwhile, this is what Republicans want....
I’ve been silent on the report about frivolous spending because I don’t have any idea where the crab legs and shit went, but this does get to the core of why I’m running out of fucks to give on wasteful spending for programs like SNAP, USAID and Medicaid. We aren’t getting a meaningful choice between wasteful spending and non-wasteful spending. You’re just signaling different virtues while spending the same money. I don’t have an issue with giving the troops fresh fruit, but if we just didn’t keep sending them off to fire a bunch of (far more expensive) bombs off in the Middle East and treat massive budgets like a badge of honor to celebrate, maybe we could save some actual fucking money.

I'm still asking the relevance of serving our soldiers good meals.

If you recall - You claimed these were going to the Hegseth an the generals.

YOu think food for our soliders is the same as somalian welfare fraud?

Thats the equivalency you are running here?

The only time this food is being served is either special occasions (some holidays, some other things) or when there's a higher up around. Again you can do the math. I dare you to do the math.

You're the one making the claim its wasteful - Prove it that this is going directly to Hegseths belly.

Steak and lobster is commonly and traditionally served to military personnel who are about to begin combat operations. I’m not sure when that started, but it’s happened at least as far back as Desert Storm.

More common than empty daycare centers run by foreigners?

The left is OUTRAGED!

OUTRAGED I TELL YOU!

But lets not throw around accusations on the clear hundreds of billions of dollars of Somalian led fraud.

These aren't serious people and their underlying motivation on all positions is WHITE MAN BAD / AMERICA BAD.

Clearly not my intent. I think the continued use of our military in expensive foreign conflicts and the disparity between how certain people look at defense budgets and the budgets of any other government agency are the issue. We shouldn’t be trumpeting big numbers like $2 trillion as some win in and of itself.

Clearly

Apparently not. The point is that we just throw a big ass dollar amount at defense that sounds good and supportive on its own merits rather than actually grapple with how that money is being spent and try to work the number down rather than up. We saw the same thing with DHS and it led to Noem spending hundreds of millions of dollars on commercials of her on a horse. Why is safety/defense this magic thing that must require more money rather than more efficiency?

I agree…and we can substitute “defense” for just about everything else that government does and this sentence still works.

I wish DOGE had actually succeeded. Shame it didn’t. One of the biggest disappointments of this administration, IMO. Who knows when the next opportunity will arise.

I agree with all this as well, and it’s what ultimately makes me so snarky when outrage is demanded from me when it comes to any and all other wasteful spending or even fraud. The actual stopping of fraud and waste within the system is always a good thing. It’s just a shame that both sides see “more money” for their causes as the end goal of government budgeting, rather than doing as much good with the money as possible. We are just now in a cycle where the positive outcome is “lobster and crab” for some government employees before we snap back to the left cheering on more funding for something else.
