FIFA World Cup 2014

We may not be, but I'd feel confident if we played them again.

US has been underrated for sure and Portugal was a touch overrated. But a fully healthy Portugal more times than not beats a fully healthy US. But I think the gap is overstated. Teams like the US who lack some quality but out effort opponents has a value. Germany won 3 world cups that way.

Portugual drew against US. Lost to Germany and beat Ghana. Sound familiar? What did US do to make them more worthy? Yes I understand the goal difference is the tie-breaker.

Lol did you watch the games?! Portugal got dominated by Germany while we stayed right with them. Also we dominated the Portugal game. They were real lucky we didn't win that game 3-0. I feel it was pretty obvious the Germans were the best team in the group and we were the 2nd best...

I will say that the little bit I have watched, the American team basically plays max effort all the time. I don't know how much difference that ultimately makes. But they don't roll over and that's respectable.

Not all of them. The only things that matter are the results. If you play a team good for 90 minutes and crap away at the end and wind up drawing it doesn't matter if the game was even all game and ended in a draw. A draw is a draw no matter how you slice it. See how far you get with moral victories.

I guess it'll get you to the Round of 16 while Portugal gets a 1st class ticket home.

Was at a bar in times sq....there was never a bigger celebration at the end of a loss than what I was just a part of lol.

Belgium is talented but if there was a top 8 draw team to face, Belgium would be the second choice after the Swiss. Belgium doesn't quite inspire fear and if the US plays their hearts out they may walk out with a win then they'll get their tits ripped by the Argentines but making it to the final 8 in a World Cup many predicted them to lose their group would be a massive win for the US.

I thought the U.S. had no chance of advancing and am pleasantly surprised. I do think we got extremely lucky (outplayed by Ghana, injured Portugal, playing Germany last when they really had no reason to push), but the bottom line is we still advanced. This is a great day for US Soccer.

Belguim is tough, but they are a notch below the top tier teams in the tourney. They are going to be tough to score against (have they allowed 1 goal?) Kompany is a monster. They have some quickness up front with Mertens and Hazard. They are probably the most physical team in the tourney. Lukaku has done nothing for them so that is a good thing.

I think Belgium advance in a low scoring game, but **** it GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I wonder how upset the English are that the US is advancing.

Argentina has an easy road to the semi-finals.... I think Mexico would beat them

I guess me and zeets are the only ones here who thought 'Murica would advance past the group of death.

After the awful 2006 group of death with Bruce Arena...

Argentina escaped Iran and Nigeria thanks to Leo.

I think we could shock them if we continue to play this hard nosed tough type of play we've done under Klinnsman.

Messi is too good. There's also the issues of playing up to competition, Argentina may have just coasted through. Jozy's health is most important for the US. Without Jozy we just aren't dangerous enough. I fully expect US/Belgium to go to extra time as well. I wouldn't be shocked if it was a 0-0 PK match.
