Pete Van Weiren passes away at 69.

last nights game was so bad, it killed Pete

RIP Pete. You and Skip will always be missed

I am saddened by this news. Like millions out there, I grew up watching and listening to Braves games. Skip and Pete were my favorite. I was honored to have met him in the 1990s in Augusta on Caravan visits, and see him at a game in 2008 and get a photo with him. He was a legend and loved by millions. His book was very good. He will be missed.

Saddened by this news.

Prayers to friends and family.

Rest in peace Professor.

Ugh.

2008, 3 starting pitchers go down with season ending injuries. Longtime Braves announcer passes in the beginning of August.

2014, 3 starting pitchers go down with season ending injuries. Longtime Braves announcer passes in the beginning of August.

Terrible news. He was an icon of my childhood. I never knew he was sick. I'm sad that he is gone but happy he is no longer in any pain.

We were blessed for so long. Our current crew is nothing in comparison.

When you are revered through the Dark Ages of Braves baseball, that is a statement that no one can top.

I grew up and was converted because of them, this trio of brilliant broadcasters who would bring sunshine while it rain, who would make us laugh, when we should be crying. A bad team we were, they make it feel like we were in 1st place.

Pete was one of the golden gods of Braves radio and TV and may his soul rest in peace.

Amen.

uh oh.

Pete was never going to be as well-known or beloved as Skip, whose mordant smartassery was just what the fanbase needed at the time. But Pete's professionalism and dorky passion were omnipresent, and there's no doubt he'll be missed.

Perfect assessment.

Just re-read a passage on him from a book that is a collection of several Braves players and figures' most memorable games.

He was talking about the day they won the division in '91 and how his sons were coming back from a Georgia football game. They told him when the final out was recorded, everyone on the highway was honking their horns.

Also told a pretty funny story about the day Ted Turner managed and how he went with him late that night to the only restaurant they could find and Turner ordered pizza and wine.

I also recommend his book Of Mikes and Men.

So sad to hear about the passing of the great Pete Van Wieren. Nobody was better than Skip and The Professor. Nobody.

He was so professional. Skip and Pete just complemented each other perfectly. I have so many memories listening to these guys. Sad that we've lost both of them, but they lived lives few could only dream.
