DOB has blown the whistle on the clubhouse; now what?

Harang and Wood/Floyd make up for Medlen/Beachy and then some

Huh?

If you said Ervin and then Harang/Wood I'd believe you but Harang and Wood are on their way to about a 2 fWAR season. Maybe mid 2s. That's not as good as we should have gotten from Meds and Beachy if they were actually healthy.

I freakin lightweight, that who. And one who makes 1 million a year "building " team that is crumbling before our very eyes, lacking hustle, brains, and leadership, all those intangibles that smart baseball men can glean but this poser has no clue re.

I'll take Prado over Mr solo HR any day, stats notwithstanding. Wren and Fredi are both culpable.

That Prado would be the guy the Arizona media referred to as a "salary dump" last week? If you were against that deal at the time, you were part of a very small minority. The only thing I found fault with was including Drury.

Things have been so bad lately one of the highlights on the Braves mlb.com page is Heyward stealing 2nd on a passed ball.

Harang/Wood/Floyd have combined for 300 IP, low 3's ERA. I know you don't believe Medlen and Beachy would each have 150 inning pitched and a low 3 ERA, right?

2013 Medlen had a low 3 ERA with 200 IP in 11-12 Beachy posted in 38 starts posted a 3.07 ERA. Medlen and Beachy were great when they started and were healthy. Health is a big concern of course.

Medlen had a 3.48 FIP so low 3 ERA is probably on the low side, but not terribly unreasonable. Beachy has never thrown over 140 inning has a 3.25 ERA (3.68 in his only "full" season). Thus, to expect Beachy and Medlen to combine for 300 innings and a low 3 ERA is unreasonable. Thus, Harang and Wood/Floyd have at the very least equaled what would have been expected from Medlen/Beachy, but more than likely surpassed it.

Problem with Medlen and Beachy going forward is you don't know what you are going to get. All of the odds stacked against them say they will never return to what they once were. Of course if there is someone out there that can come back and be a beast it is Medlen.

I fear Venters is the example we need to pay attention. By Fredi's count (which is proabably conservative), he has had at least two setbacks from his second TJ surgery. He is at 15 months and counting on his possible return.

No, I was for the deal. Loved it like everyone else. And the D'backs overpaid Prado. I'm just sayin I'd rather have a guy "like Prado" who is better than his stats rather than a guy like Justin who is worse than his stats.

I expect Wren to be smarter than the message boards at 1 million a year.

In no world is a player actually better or worse than their stats. Their stats are their stats. With Prado the Braves high water mark in wins was 94. Following offseason we lost Bourn, lost Chipper, and had a competent value Uggla. Maybe most damning we lost 54 games and 210 PA of Jason. For gains 2013 we added more Simmons, Julio, Medlen, but lost some Huddy, and got a little wood, and got a better but less pT Mac and the only new players were Justin, Johnson and BJ. Johnson was a noticeable step down from Chipper, BJ was worlds apart from Bourn offensively and defensively, and baserunning.

Despite all those guys we lost offensively, Chipper, Bourn, and Prado for Johnson, BJ and Upton, we only scored 12 less runs. From a RAR standpoint, we were superior offensively than we were the year before (primarily because of how ****ty our pitching was at hitting though.

D-Backs in 2012 scored 734 runs, in 2013 scored 685 and won the exact same number of games.

I really don't see how Prado helped the Braves or d-Backs any more than Justin. There's 0 evidence I see to support your opinion.

I'll take Prado over Mr solo HR any day,

Looks like this was what you were just sayin'.

Just sayin'.

Assume we had a player "like Prado"—versatile, gritty, and essentially league-average for the past two years. You really think we're a better club without a guy who is top-10 run producer?

Give me Justin every time. I love Prado. I was incredibly upset when he lost him, but Justin is by far more valuable.
